The Big Eight Conference was a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA)-affiliated Division I-A college athletic association that sponsored football. It was formed in January 1907 as the Missouri Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MVIAA) by its charter member schools: the University of Kansas, University of Missouri, University of Nebraska, and Washington University in St. Louis. Ron Sharp is a former teacher and tennis coach from Shawnee, Oklahoma, Shawnee, Oklahoma and was a Republican Party (United States), Republican member of the Oklahoma Senate from the 17th district. Career While in the Oklahoma Senate, Ron Sharp was one of the first legislators to question Cindy Byrd#Epic Charter Schools audit, Epic Charter Schools spending and filed legislation to regulate them. The legislation was not heard by committee and Sharp was removed from the Senate Education Committee. Epic Charter Schools later attempted to sue Sharp, but the case was dismissed.
