Charles Oliver Fairbank
Charles Oliver Fairbank (June 6, 1904 - 1982) was an Ontario petroleum engineer and political figure. He represented Lambton East in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as a Liberal member from 1938 to 1943. He was born in Petrolia, Ontario, the son of Dr. Charles Oliver Fairbank and grandson of John Henry Fairbank, and studied at McGill University and the University of California, where he received a B.Sc. Charles Oliver Fairbank (doctor)
Major Charles Oliver Fairbank (1858–1925) was a Canadian oilman and military officer and M.D. who served in the First World War. Fairbank was born July 21, 1858, in Niagara Falls, Welland County Ontario. He was the son of famous Petrolia oil pioneer, John Henry Fairbank and grew up in the oil rush of Oil Springs and Petrolia. From the age of four to eight lived with his father in the Oil Springs log shanty. He was an oil operator who took the reins of all the family businesses in 1912 as the oil fields began declining. The businesses included oil production and a hardware store. The Fairbank family founded Fairbank Oil (still in operation) in 1861. He studied at Helmuth College in London, Ontario. John Henry Fairbank
John Henry Fairbank (July 21, 1831 - February 10, 1914) was variously a surveyor, oilman, inventor, banker, politician and fire chief in Lambton County, Ontario. Fairbank is best known for his invention of the jerker-line pumping system, which quickly spread across the world its introduction in the mid-1860s. Fairbank Oil, established by Fairbank in 1861, is the oldest continually operating petroleum company, and the company's property, known as the "First Commercial Oil Field," is included in the List of National Historic Sites of Canada in Ontario.
