Charles Markell
Charles Markell (December 16, 1882 – February 24, 1955) was an American jurist who served as Chief Judge of the Supreme Court of the U.S. state of Maryland, the Court of Appeals. Markell was born in Baltimore, Maryland to John and Elizabeth Charlton Harris Markell. He received his early education in the public schools of Hagerstown and Baltimore, and graduated in 1902 with an A.B. degree from Johns Hopkins University. He received his LL.B. degree in 1904 from the University of Maryland School of Law in Baltimore. From 1904 to 1944, Markell worked in the law office of Gans and Haman, which later became the law office of Cook and Markell. From 1941 to 1942, he served as President of the Maryland Bar Association. Simon Sobeloff
Simon Ernest Sobeloff (December 3, 1894 – July 11, 1973) was an American attorney and jurist, who served as Solicitor General of the United States, as Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals of Maryland, and as a United States circuit judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Education and career Sobeloff was born in Baltimore, Maryland, the son of Jacob and Mary Hilda (Kaplan) Sobeloff, who were Russian Jewish immigrants. Sobeloff attended public schools including Baltimore City College and the University of Maryland School of Law, where he received his Bachelor of Laws in 1915. He served as a Page in the United States House of Representatives in 1910. He was admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1914, was a law clerk in Baltimore the same year, and subsequently went into private practice. Ogle Marbury (August 23, 1882 – October 3, 1973) was an American politician and jurist who served as Chief Judge of the supreme court of the U.S. state of Maryland, the Court of Appeals. Early life and education Marbury was born near Guilford, Howard County, Maryland to Eleanora Brevitt (née MacKenzie) and Reverend Ogle Marbury. He was privately tutored as a youth, and also attended Baltimore City College and Deichmann Gymnasium School. He received his B.A. degree in 1902 from Johns Hopkins University, and his LL.B. degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1904.
