Charles M. Franchville
Charles Muller Francheville (February 24, 1846 – September 10, 1900''A Directory of the Members of the Legislative Assembly of Nova Scotia, 1758-1958'', Public Archives of Nova Scotia (1958)) was a merchant, ship owner and political figure in Nova Scotia, Canada. He represented Guysborough County in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly from 1874 to 1878 as a Liberal member. He was born in Guysborough, Nova Scotia, the son of Edward H. Francheville and Sarah Peart. He was a ship's master for several years before becoming a merchant and shipper of goods. Francheville was also a justice of the peace, a major in the militia and an agent for several insurance companies. In 1868, he married Harriet Amelia Jost. Guysborough County is a county in the Provinces and territories of Canada, Canadian province of Nova Scotia. History Taking its name from the Guysborough, Nova Scotia, Township of Guysborough, which was named in honour of Sir Guy Carleton, 1st Baron Dorchester, Guy Carleton, Guysborough County was created when Sydney County (Antigonish County, Nova Scotia, Antigonish County) was divided in 1836. Guysborough, officially named the Municipality of the District of Guysborough, is a district municipality in Guysborough County, Nova Scotia, Canada. Statistics Canada classifies the district municipality as a municipal district. It is home to the Boylston and Salsman Provincial Parks. The parks are located between Boylston and Guysborough. History The area was originally called Chedabouctou and was the site of one of a fishing post of Nicolas Denys. In 1682, a permanent settlement was started by Clerbaud Bergier. A group cleared land and spent the winter with the first crops being planted in 1683. John Angus Kirk
John Angus Kirk (March 1, 1837 – September 13, 1910) was a Canadian politician and farmer. He was elected to the House of Commons of Canada as a Member of the Liberal Party to represent the riding of Guysborough. He was defeated in 1878 and re-elected in 1882 and 1887. He was the son of Angus Kirk, of Scottish descent. He was educated in Glenelg and at Saint Francis Xavier University and became a farmer in Guysborough County. Kirk was a councillor for St. Mary's, Nova Scotia and a member of the Canadian military as a Lieutenant-Colonel in the 5th Guysborough Regiment of Militia. The Legislative Council of Nova Scotia was the upper house of the legislature of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. It existed from 1838 to May 31, 1928.
