Charles Lucas Engineering
Charles Lucas Engineering were manufacturers of Titan Formula cars from 1967 to 1976 and engines and components for racing cars. The company was renamed Titan Motorsport and Manufacturing Ltd after it ceased car manufacturing. Origins Charles Lucas was a qualified engineer who had started racing in the early 1960s. In 1963, his friends got involved with the then new Formula 3 class of cars. In 1964, Lucas had a clone Lotus 31 built for him by Roy Thomas. In 1965, he managed and raced in a team with Brabham BT10s. This was so successful that Colin Chapman had Charles Lucas Engineering run the Lotus Formula 3 works team in 1966. Formula Three, also called Formula 3, abbreviated as F3, is a third-tier class of open-wheel formula racing. The various championships held in Europe, Australia, South America and Asia form an important step for many prospective Formula One drivers. Lotus 31
The Lotus 31 was a racing car produced by Lotus for the new 1-litre Formula 3 introduced in 1964, replacing the expensive Formula Junior. The chassis was a multi-tubular spaceframe, of similar design to the 1962 Lotus 22 Formula Junior. A Ford Cosworth 105E with Single Choke Weber or SU carburettors produced at 8000rpm. The 31 had little success against the more advanced monocoque cars that dominated in 1964. Records show only 12 were built in 1964/5. In 1966 19 cars were built with the Chassis 22/F3. Brabham BT10
The Brabham BT10 was a Formula 2 racing car designed by Ron Tauranac and powered by a Cosworth 109E engine. Motor Racing Developments ran the BT10 in Formula Two, The 'BT10' campaigned fairly successfully in F2, taking several wins. The car was also entered for two Formula One races, John Willment Automobiles entered a BT10 at the 1964 British Grand Prix for Frank Gardner to drive but retired when he had an accident. The BT10 final F1 race was the 1965 South African Grand Prix on New Year's Day. Two BT10s were entered, David Prophet entered himself to drive and John Willment Automobiles entered Paul Hawkins. Colin Chapman
Anthony Colin Bruce Chapman (19 May 1928 – 16 December 1982) was an English design engineer, inventor, and builder in the automotive industry, and founder of Lotus Cars. In 1952 he founded the sports car company Lotus Cars. Chapman initially ran Lotus in his spare time, assisted by a group of enthusiasts. His knowledge of the latest aeronautical engineering techniques would prove vital towards achieving the major automotive technical advances for which he is remembered. His design philosophy focused on cars with light weight and fine handling instead of bulking up on horsepower and spring rates, which he famously summarised as "Adding power makes you faster on the straights. Subtracting weight makes you faster everywhere." Fred Opert
Frederic Barry Opert (25 May 1939 – 9 August 2016), known as "Fred", was an American racing driver, car dealer, and founder and owner of the Fred Opert Racing team. As a driver, Opert's race entries included the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring. His team, Fred Opert Racing, fielded many notable Formula 1 drivers early in their careers including future Formula One World Champions Keke Rosberg, Alan Jones and Alain Prost, as well as future IndyCar champion Bobby Rahal. Racing career Opert raced sports cars and single-seater formula cars until 1970. Formula Atlantic is a specification of open-wheel racing car developed in the 1970s. It was used in professional racing through the IMSA Atlantic Championship until 2009 and is currently primarily used in amateur racing through Sports Car Club of America Formula Atlantic. Silverstone Circuit
Silverstone Circuit is a motor racing circuit in England, near the Northamptonshire villages of Towcester, Silverstone and Whittlebury. It is the home of the British Grand Prix, which it first hosted as the 1948 British Grand Prix.
