Captain Charles Stewart Touzeau Lavers BEM (17 August 1896 – 1979) was a British World War I flying ace credited with nine aerial victories. Early life Charles Stewart Touzeau Lavers was born in Saint Albans, England on 17 August 1896.Shores, et al, p. 234. World War I service First tour Lavers originally served domestically in the West Yorkshire Regiment from September 1915 through May 1916. He then shipped out to France, serving in the 1st Battalion until September, when he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps. He was assigned to No. 23 Squadron as an observer/gunner on Royal Aircraft Factory FE.2s. Saint Albans
St Albans () is a cathedral city in Hertfordshire, England, east of Hemel Hempstead and west of Hatfield, north-west of London, south-west of Welwyn Garden City and south-east of Luton. St Albans was the first major town on the old Roman road of Watling Street for travellers heading north and became the city of Verulamium. It is within the London commuter belt and the Greater London Built-up Area. Name St Albans takes its name from the first British saint, Alban. The most elaborate version of his story, Bede's ''Ecclesiastical History of the English People'', relates that he lived in Verulamium, sometime during the 3rd or 4th century, when Christians were suffering persecution. Alban met a Christian priest fleeing from his persecutors and sheltered him in his house, where he became so impressed with the priest's piety that he converted to Christianity. Fokker was a Dutch aircraft manufacturer named after its founder, Anthony Fokker. The company operated under several different names. It was founded in 1912 in Berlin, Germany, and became famous for its fighter aircraft in World War I. In 1919 the company moved its operations to the Netherlands.
