Charity Cup
The Charity Cup (known as the ASB Charity Cup for sponsorship reasons) is New Zealand's association football super cup, which takes place on annual basis. The competition was founded in 1978 as the NZFA Challenge Trophy. The Champions of the National Soccer League and the Chatham Cup would compete. It stopped taking place after 1987. The tournament was re-introduced in 2011 as the ASB Charity Cup. The ASB Premiership Grand Final winner meets the best performing New Zealand representative in the OFC Champions League. Following the restructuring of football in New Zealand in 2021, the Charity Cup will once again be contested by the winner of the Chatham Cup and the winner of the National League, beginning with the 2022 season. Champions Chess Tour 2022
The Champions Chess Tour 2022, known for sponsorship reasons as the Meltwater Champions Chess Tour, was a 9-month series of nine online chess tournaments featuring some of the world's top players, who played for a prize money pool of US$1.6 million. The tour started on February 19, 2022 and lasted until November 20, 2022. Schedule There are 9 tournaments in the tour: 6 labelled as Regular and 3 labelled as Major. Format The format was similar to that of the previous season, with some innovations. Qualification Regular Each Regular tournament had 16 participants. In all Regular tournaments but the first, the top 8 players from the previous tournament (Regular or Major) were invited. The remaining spots were filled by wildcards chosen by the organizer. University-Mount Wellington
University-Mount Wellington is an association football club in Auckland, New Zealand. It was formed from the amalgamation of University AFC and Mount Wellington AFC. The team play at Bill McKinlay Park, Panmure, Auckland. Club history During much of the 1970s and 1980s, Mt Wellington AFC was a strong club side, rivalled only by Christchurch United. Waitakere United was a football club based in Waitakere City, New Zealand. They were one of the franchises in the ISPS Handa Premiership. They played their home games at Fred Taylor Park in Kumeu and The Trusts Arena. History Waitakere United was formed as a special franchise club in 2004 to play in the New Zealand Football Championship (NZFC), New Zealand's top domestic football competition. The team represented 12 member clubs from Mt Albert to the Kaipara. North Shore United Association Football Club is an amateur football club based in the North Shore, Auckland. They compete in the Northern League, where they last won the competition in 2019. Gisborne City
Gisborne City AFC was an association football club in Gisborne, New Zealand. Founded in 1939 as Eastern Union, the club changed its name to Gisborne City after winning the Central Districts League at the first attempt in 1967. As Eastern Union, the club had competed in the Chatham Cup since the early 1950s, and reached the semi-final (and North Island Final) in 1957, losing to eventual champions Seatoun 3–1. Gisborne set the New Zealand record for the most players from one club to be chosen for the New Zealand national football team to compete at a FIFA World Cup. Wellington United AFC is an association football club based in Wellington, New Zealand, that competes in the Central League. History Wellington Diamond United Wellington Diamond United was the result of the merger of Diamond and Zealandia/Wellington United in 1968. Diamond was founded as a junior football club in 1893 by members of the Star Rugby Club, who wished to play football. It became a senior team in 1895.
