Bernard Chapuis (born 1945 in Algiers) is a French writer and journalist. Biography A journalist working for ''Combat'', he joined ''Le Canard enchaîné'' in the 1970s. He later succeeded Robert Escarpit for the daily notes in ''Le Monde''. In 2005, he won the prix Roger-Nimier for his novel ''La Vie parlée'' published by éditions Stock and the prix des Deux Magots in 2010 for ''Le Rêve entouré d'eau'' at the same publisher. Cyril Chapuis (born 21 March 1979) is a French former professional footballer who played as a striker. Club career Chapuis started his professional career at Niort in Ligue 2 and then moved to Ligue 1 for Rennes. In January 2002, he signed a five-year contract with Olympique de Marseille, playing one and a half season with Marseille before being loaned on three occasions to Leeds United (playing just once in the league, against Bolton in November 2003), Strasbourg and Ajaccio. Jean-Joseph Chapuis (June 6, 1765 – February 10, 1864) was a French cabinetmaker of the 18th and 19th centuries. Biography Jean-Joseph Chapuis was born in Brussels in 1765. He was trained in Paris, where he became a master craftsman, entitling him to use a personal mark (''estampille'') on his work. He had set up his workshop in his home town by 1795 and kept it active to 1830, regularly applying his mark on the pieces of furniture that he made. When the first reference guides on the history of French furniture in the 18th century appeared in Paris, this mark was attributed to Claude Chapuis, who was in fact only a simple trader, of whom little if anything is known. This deprived Jean-Joseph Chapuis of his fame and explains why pieces of furniture by Jean-Joseph Chapuis are rarely found in public collections outside France. Michel Léon Chapuis () (15 January 1930 – 12 November 2017) was a French classical organist and pedagogue. He was especially known as an interpreter of the French and the German Baroque masters and dedicated to historically informed performances. Biography Chapuis was born in Dole, Jura, and had his early training there, on the organ of the Cathedral of Dole. In 1943, he studied the piano with Émile Poillot in Dijon. In 1945 came his first serious study of the organ with Jeanne Marguillard, organist of the Besançon Cathedral. He then studied at the École César Franck in Paris under René Mahlherbe (composition) and Édouard Souberbielle (organ). He had further studies with Marcel Dupré at the Conservatoire de Paris and won prizes in organ and improvisation in 1951 (the Prix Périlhou et Guilmant). René-Bernard Chapuy (known as ''Chapuis'') was a French soldier and general who served in the Caribbean, American War of Independence and Wars of the French Revolution. Career Born in Nancy on 18 June 1746, he was enlisted as a soldier of the Régiment Recrus des Colonies on 4 October 1765, promoted sergeant in November 1766 and Fourrier in December 1770. He was embarked for the Windward Islands on 28 December 1772. On 4 February 1773 his unit was incorporated into the Régiment de la Guadeloupe, in which he became Sous-Lieutenant of grenadiers on 1 May 1775. Chapuis served in the American War of Independence from 1778 to 1782, becoming lieutenant on 4 February 1779. He obtained a pension of 400 Livres on 1 July 1783 and was appointed Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Senegal Repentigny, in which role he served until 1 February 1786 when he returned to France.
