Chan Man-kwai
Chan Man-kwai (born 1 April 1948) is a Chinese screenwriter who began his career in Hong Kong. He has written over 40 films and TV series in Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China. Chan was born and grew up in Xiamen. During the Cultural Revolution he laboured as a sent-down youth in the mountains of Yongding in southwestern Fujian. After the Cultural Revolution, he migrated to British Hong Kong in 1978, doing odd-and-end jobs for 3 years before deciding to write fiction. One of his works was published in the magazine ''Southern Movies'' (), run by the renowned Shaw Brothers Studio Shaw Brothers (HK) Ltd. () was the largest film production company in Hong Kong, and operated from 1925 to 2011. Xiamen
Xiamen ( , ; ), also known as Amoy (, from Hokkien pronunciation ), is a sub-provincial city in southeastern Fujian, People's Republic of China, beside the Taiwan Strait. It is divided into six districts: Huli, Siming, Jimei, Tong'an, Haicang, and Xiang'an. ''The King of Masks'' () is a 1996 Chinese film directed by Wu Tianming. Synopsis In 1930s China, Wang is The King of Masks, an aged street performer who practices the change-mask opera art of bian lian. He laments that he has no male heirs to carry on his mysterious and complicated art and trade. At an illegal child market, Wang buys what he believes to be an orphan boy to become his adopted grandson and apprentice. However, Wang soon learns his new disciple is in fact a girl. As tradition dictates that he cannot pass his art onto a girl, he tries to abandon her, but she stubbornly stays with him. He later calls her "doggie" and has her refer to him as "boss". ''The Eloquent Ji Xiaolan'' () is a Chinese television series about the life of Ji Xiaolan. ''Justice Pao'' is a 236-episode television series from Taiwan, first airing on Chinese Television System (CTS) from February 1993 to January 1994. Background The show stars Jin Chao-chun as the legendary Song dynasty official Bao Zheng. It was hugely popular in many countries in East Asia and Southeast Asia. The series was originally planned to have just 15 episodes. However, the show had high ratings when the initial episodes aired. Due to its popularity, CTS extended the show to 236 episodes.
