The present Mayor is Paulo Queimado, elected by the Socialist Party (Portugal), Socialist Party. The municipal holiday is Ascension Day. Ruy Gómez De Silva, 1st Prince Of Éboli
Dom Rui Gomes da Silva (in Spanish, Ruy Gómez de Silva), 1st Prince of Eboli (27 October 1516 in Chamusca – 29 July 1573 in Madrid), was a Portuguese noble and one of King Philip II of Spain's main advisers. Earlier life Rui Gomes da Silva was born in Chamusca, Portugal and was the second son of Dom Francisco da Silva, Lord of Ulme and Chamusca. In March 1526, he escorted ''Infanta'' Isabel of Portugal to Seville where she married Charles I of Spain. He remained in Spain living within Isabel's entourage. In 1527, when Philip II of Spain was born, Rui became his page. An enormous friendship linked the two boys during their entire lives. In 1554 when his eldest brother John died, Rui inherited the lordship of Ulme and Chamusca. Chamusca is a Portuguese wine region centered on the town of Chamusca in the Ribatejo region. José Albano Cid de Ferreira Tavares (born 4 February 1942) is a Portuguese singer, composer and record producer. Internationally, Cid is best known for his 1978 progressive rock album'' 10,000 Anos Depois Entre Vénus e Marte'' and for representing Portugal at the Eurovision Song Contest 1980 with the song " Um grande, grande amor". A parish is a territorial entity in many Christian denominations, constituting a division within a diocese. A parish is under the pastoral care and clerical jurisdiction of a priest, often termed a parish priest, who might be assisted by one or more curates, and who operates from a parish church. The Ascension of Jesus (anglicized from the Vulgate la, ascensio Iesu, lit=ascent of Jesus) is the Christian teaching that Christ physically departed from Earth by rising to Heaven, in the presence of eleven of his apostles.
