Chaman
Chaman ( Balochi, Pashto and ur, ) is a city and recently claimed as a new district of Balochistan named Chaman District as it was earlier a part of district Qila Abdullah District located on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. It is the capital of Chaman District, Balochistan, Pakistan. It is situated just south of the Wesh–Chaman border crossing with the neighbouring Kandahar Province of Afghanistan. After the capital Quetta, Chaman is the fifth-largest city and tehsil in the Pashtun majority northern part of Balochistan, and is also Balochistan's fifth-largest city. Climate With an influence from the local steppe climate, Chaman features a hot semi-arid climate (Köppen ''BSh''). Wesh–Chaman Border Crossing
The Wesh–Chaman border crossing is one of the major international border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Located on the Pak-Afghan border, it leads north from the town of Chaman, Chaman District, Balochistan into Wesh in Spin Boldak District, Kandahar province. More generally, it links the two provincial capitals: Quetta and Kandahar. At least 10 thousand peoples cross this border on the daily basis having businesses in Wesh and return home in the evening. On 14 July 2021, the border crossing was captured by Taliban forces as part of the 2021 Taliban offensive. A brick, double-arched Friendship Gate, rising three stories tall, was erected in 2003. 2017 Chaman Suicide Bombing
On 10 July 2017, a suicide bombing occurred at Bogra Chowk in Chaman, Chaman District, Balochistan, Pakistan. Four people were killed and 20 others were wounded. The deceased were two police officers, the bomber and a passerby. Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack. Bombing According to police sources, a suicide bomber on a motorcycle rode into District Police Officer of Killa Abdullah, Sajid Khan Mohammad's vehicle killing both of them, his guard and a passerby as well as wounding 20 others. At the time of the explosion, the DPO was at Bogra Chowk. The head and legs of the bomber were found. Initial reports suggested that the explosion was caused by an improvised explosive device; police sources later said that a suicide bomber blew himself up. Chaman District
Chaman District ( ps, چمن ولسوالی, bal, چمن, ur, ) is an administrative district of Balochistan Province, Pakistan. Chaman District was created after bifurcating Qila Abdullah District. Chaman District is also known as the 'Dry port' for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects. 2021 Chaman Bombings
The 2021 Chaman bombings were two bombing attacks in Chaman, Balochistan, Pakistan, that occurred on 24 March and 21 May. These attacks left 10 people dead and another 27 injured. Background The insurgency in Balochistan is a long-running low-intensity insurgency by Baloch nationalists in southwestern Pakistan and southeastern Iran. Chaman was previously bombed in 2017. Bombings 24 March A bomb left 3 people dead and another 13 were injured. The terrorist act involved the detonation of a remote-controlled bomb placed in a motorcycle. The target of the attack was a senior police officer. The explosion occurred as the police car was about to pass the motorcycle. Among the 3 dead was a child, while two security personnel were among the 13 wounded. Kandahār ( ps, ; Kandahār, prs, ; ''Qandahār'') is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan, located in the southern part of the country, sharing a border with Pakistan, to the south. It is surrounded by Helmand in the west, Uruzgan in the north and Zabul Province in the east. The Durand Line ( ps, د ډیورنډ کرښه; ur, ), forms the Pakistan–Afghanistan border, a international land border between Pakistan and Afghanistan in South Asia. The western end runs to the border with Iran and the eastern end to the border with China. The Durand Line was established in 1893 as the international border between India and the Emirate of Afghanistan by Mortimer Durand, a British diplomat of the Indian Civil Service, and Abdur Rahman Khan, the Afghan Emir, to fix the limit of their respective spheres of influence and improve diplomatic relations and trade. Qila Abdullah District
Kila Abdullah District or Qilla Abdullah (Urdu and Balochi: , ps, قلعه عبدالله ولسوالی) is a district in the north west of Balochistan province of Pakistan. Kila Abdullah was separated from Pishin District and made a new district in June 1993. The district is located within the heartland of the Achakzai tribe of Durrani Pashtuns. Topography Kila Abdullah district lies between 30–04' to 31–17' North Longitude in the foothills of the Shela Bagh Mountain range. 2017 Census Of Pakistan
The 2017 Census of Pakistan was a detailed enumeration of the Pakistani population which began on 15 March 2017 and ended on 25 May 2017. It was the first census taken in the country in the 21st century, nineteen years after 1998 Census of Pakistan, the previous one in 1998, and it was carried out by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. The census recorded a total population throughout the country of 213,222,917. The results showed a massive population increase having occurred between 1998 and 2017 of 77.0 Million people, or an increase of +56.5%. The results also marked a significant overperformance compared to estimations made of the Pakistani population before the census, which had previously estimated the Pakistani population in 2017 to be 195 Million – 200 Million.
