Chairmen of the Board is an American-Canadian, Detroit, Michigan-based soul music musical ensemble, group, who saw their greatest commercial success in the 1970s. Recording career General Johnson (musician), General Johnson (1941–2010) had a hit record, hit as the lead singing, singer of The Showmen in the early 1960s, with the New Orleans rock and roll anthem "It Will Stand" and Beach music, Carolina Beach classic "39-21-40 Shape". When Holland/Dozier/Holland left Motown Records, Motown in 1967 to establish their own Invictus Records, Invictus/Hot Wax Records, Hot Wax group of record labels, they teamed Johnson up with Eddie Custis, Danny Woods and Canadians, Canadian born Harrison Kennedy (musician), Harrison Kennedy as the new company's flagship act, under the appropriate name "Chairmen of the Board". "Feelin' Alright?", also known as "Feeling Alright", is a song written by Dave Mason of the English rock band Traffic for their eponymous 1968 album ''Traffic''. It was also released as a single, and failed to chart in both the UK and the US, but it did reach a bubbling under position of #123 on the Billboard Hot 100. Joe Cocker performed a more popular rendition of the song that did chart in the U.S. Both Traffic's and Cocker's versions appear in the 2012 movie ''Flight''. The song had also been featured in the 2000 film ''Duets'', sung by Huey Lewis. Lawrence Thomas "L.T." Horn (1939 – February 2017) was an American musician, record producer and chief recording engineer for Motown Records in Detroit and Los Angeles. He later served a life sentence for hiring a hit man to murder his ex-wife, Mildred Horn, their disabled son Trevor, and nurse Janice Saunders. The case quickly gained national interest, and went on to prompt a lawsuit with Paladin Press, the publishers of a book, '' Hit Man: A Technical Manual for Independent Contractors'', which had been used as a how-to manual by the killer. Harrison Kennedy (born March 9, 1942) is a Black Canadian electric blues, R&B, and soul blues, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist. He is best known for being the lead vocalist on the Chairmen of the Board song, "Chairman of the Board", but has had a varied solo career since the mid-1970s. General Norman Johnson
General Norman Johnson (May 23, 1941 – October 13, 2010) was an American R&B singer, frontman of the Chairmen of the Board, songwriter, and record producer. Biography Johnson made an early start in music when he began singing in his church choir at the age of six. His recording debut came six years later on Atlantic Records, which recorded his group the Humdingers, although the tracks remain unreleased. In 1961, and following a change in name to the Showmen, Johnson and the group recorded “It Will Stand”, a single for Minit Records. It was a chart hit in both 1961 and 1964. Although the Showmen recorded other offerings for Minit and Swan, including such hits as "39-21-46", they split up in 1968. Johnson attempted an abortive solo career before joining the then new Invictus label in Detroit, Michigan.
