Al Cervi
Alfred Nicholas Cervi (February 12, 1917 – November 9, 2009) was an American professional basketball player and coach in the National Basketball League (NBL) and National Basketball Association (NBA). One of the strongest backcourt players of the 1940s and 1950s, he was always assigned to defend against the opposing team's best scoring threat. He earned the nickname "Digger" because of his hard-nosed style of defense. Early life Born in Buffalo, New York, Cervi attended East High School in his hometown, where he captained the baseball and basketball teams and achieved All-City honors in both sports. He dropped out of school after his junior year when he was recruited by the Buffalo Bisons of the newly formed NBL. Bernardino Cervi or Cerva was an Italian painter of the Baroque period. Native of Modena, and a scholar of Guido Reni. Dominic Cervi (born July 9, 1986) is an American former professional soccer player who played as a goalkeeper. Personal life Cervi grew up in Norman, Oklahoma. He played eight seasons for his youth club, Norman Celtic '86. He attended Norman North High School, where he played soccer for all four years. He was named Oklahoma Defensive Player of the Year by ''The Oklahoman'' during his junior and senior seasons in 2003 and 2004. He also earned three letters in basketball, where he additionally earned Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2004. Cervi's great-grandparents were Italian. He received his Italian passport in May 2009, which eliminated the need to obtain a work permit, thus making him a more appealing potential signing for European clubs. Valentina Cervi (born 13 April 1976) is an Italian film and television actress. Cervi was born in Rome, Italy. She is the daughter of director Tonino Cervi and granddaughter of actor Gino Cervi. Her mother is the Italian producer of Austrian-Hungarian origin Marina Gefter. Cervi started her acting career at age ten in Carlo Cotti's 1986 film ''Portami la luna''. Cervi Brothers
The Cervi Brothers (Italian: ''Fratelli Cervi'') were the seven sons of Alcide Cervi (1875-1970) and Genoeffa Cocconi (1876-1944), born in Campegine, Emilia-Romagna. The brothers and their father became renowned for their activities in the organized resistance to Italian fascism. After the Italian Social Republic was founded by Benito Mussolini in the north of Italy, the brothers were among many members of the resistance that suffered a crackdown by the fascist authorities. In November 1943, their house was surrounded by military forces and they surrendered after running out of ammunition during the ensuing firefight. They were taken to prison in the nearby city of Reggio Emilia along with their father. In December, a fascist secretary was killed by a lone gunman in Bagnolo in Piano.
