Ceriporia Purpurea
''Ceriporia purpurea'' is a species of crust fungus in the family Irpicaceae. It was first species description, described by Swedish mycologist Elias Magnus Fries in 1821 as ''Polyporus purpureus''. Marinus Anton Donk gave the fungus its current name when he transferred it to the genus ''Ceriporia'' in 1971. A 2016 study identified six similar ''Ceriporia'' species, referred to as the ''Ceriporia purpurea'' group: ''Ceriporia bresadolae'', the European species ''Ceriporia torpida, C. torpida'' and ''Ceriporia triumphalis, C. triumphalis'', and the North American species ''Ceriporia manzanitae, C. manzanitae'' and ''Ceriporia occidentalis, C. occidentalis''. ''Ceriporia purpurea'' is widely distributed in the temperate zone of Eurasia, where it grows exclusively on the decomposing wood of deciduous trees, and also in the American North-East. References

Elias Magnus Fries
Elias Magnus Fries (15 August 1794 – 8 February 1878) was a Swedish mycologist and botanist. Career Fries was born at Femsjö (Hylte Municipality), Småland, the son of the pastor there. He attended school in Växjö. He acquired an extensive knowledge of flowering plants from his father. In 1811 Fries entered Lund University where he obtained a doctorate in 1814. In the same year he was appointed an associate professorship in botany. He was elected a member of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, and in 1824, became a full professor. In 1834 he became Borgström professor (Swed. ''Borgströmianska professuren'', a chair endowed by Erik Eriksson Borgström, 1708–1770) in applied economics at Uppsala University. ''Ceriporia'' is a widely distributed genus of crust fungi. Taxonomy The genus was circumscribed by Dutch mycologist Marinus Anton Donk in 1930, with ''Ceriporia viridans'' as the type species. The generic name combines the Latin word ''cera'' ("wax") and the name ''Poria''. Marinus Anton Donk
Marinus Anton Donk (14 August 1908 – 2 September 1972) was a Dutch mycologist. He specialized in the taxonomy and nomenclature of mushrooms. Rolf Singer wrote in his obituary that he was "one of the most outstanding figures of contemporary mycology." Early life Donk was born in Situbondo, East Java in 1908, and completed secondary school in The Hague, Netherlands. He studied biology at the University of Utrecht, starting in 1927. As a graduate student in mycology he completed the work for his 1931 "Revisie van de Nederlandse Heterobasidiomyceteae" (Revision of the Dutch Heterobasidiomycetes).
