''Centrolene lynchi'', also known as Lynch's giant glass frog, Lynch's glassfrog, and the Tandayapa giant glass frog, is a species of frog in the family Centrolenidae. It is found in the Risaralda Department and Nariño Department on the Cordillera Occidental of Colombia and on the western Andes in the Pichincha, Cotopaxi, and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas Provinces, Ecuador. It is named after , the herpetologist who collected the first specimens of this species. Description Giant by name only, these frogs are still larger than many of their relatives: males measure in snout–vent length and females about in snout–vent length. Dorsum is yellowish-greenish with tiny whitish tubercles and black spots. Habitat and conservation The species' natural habitats are cloud forests (including secondary ones) along streams at elevations of above sea level Height above mean sea level is a measure of the vertical distance (height, elevation or altitude) of a location in re ...

Centrolene Ballux
''Centrolene ballux'' is a species of frog in the family Centrolenidae. It is known from a few disjunct localities on the Pacific versant of the Cordillera Occidental in southern Colombia ( Nariño Department) and northern Ecuador ( Pichincha and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas Provinces). Common names golden-flecked glassfrog and Burrowes' giant glass frog have been coined for it. Etymology The specific name ''ballux'' is Latin meaning "gold dust", in reference to the tiny gold flecks on the dorsum. Description Adult males measure and females in snout–vent length. The snout is rounded. Both fingers and toes are webbed. The tympanum is visible. The dorsum is dark lime green and has minute pale gold-white flecks, which are most numerous on the hind limbs. The tips of digits are yellowish green. The venter is translucent. Habitat and conservation Its natural habitats are humid upper montane forests at elevations of above sea level. Centrolene Heloderma
''Centrolene heloderma'' is a species of frog in the family Centrolenidae from the Andes in Colombia and Ecuador. It is also known as Pichincha giant glass frog or bumpy glassfrog. Distribution In Colombia it has been recorded from the western slopes of the Cordillera Occidental, in the Cauca, Risaralda, and Valle del Cauca Departments. In Ecuador it has been recorded from the western Andes in the Pichincha and Santo Domingo de los Tsáchilas Provinces. Description ''Centrolene heloderma'' are small frogs (although among the generally small ''Centrolene'', they are relatively large): males measure in snout–vent length and females (based on one frog only). It has uniformly green dorsum covered with whitish tubercles. Its snout has a characteristic obtuse profile. Females lay clutches up to 29 eggs on the upper side of leaves and very high from the water level. Upon hatching, the tadpoles drop down and develop in fast-flowing water. Glass Frog
The glass frogs belong to the amphibian family Centrolenidae ( order Anura). While the general background coloration of most glass frogs is primarily lime green, the abdominal skin of some members of this family is transparent and translucent, giving the glass frog its common name. The internal viscera, including the heart, liver, and gastrointestinal tract, are visible through the skin. When active their blood makes them visible; when sleeping most of the blood is concealed in the liver, hiding them. Glass frogs are arboreal, living mainly in trees, and only come out for mating season. Their transparency conceals them very effectively when sleeping on a green leaf, as they habitually do. Taxonomy The first described species of Centrolenidae was the "giant" '' Centrolene geckoideum'', named by Marcos Jiménez de la Espada in 1872, based on a specimen collected in northeastern Ecuador. Several species were described in subsequent years by different herpetologists (including G. ...

Cochranella
''Cochranella'' is a genus of glass frogs, family Centrolenidae. They are found in Central America from Honduras southward to the Amazonian and Andean cloud forests of Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. Etymology The generic name ''Cochranella'' honors Doris Mable Cochran, an American herpetologist. Accordingly, common name Cochran frogs has been coined for the genus. Taxonomy and systematics ''Cochranella'' was first described by Edward Harrison Taylor in 1951. The current delimitation of this genus follows from the work by Juan Manuel Guayasamin and his colleagues published in 2009 (with some later adjustments). These authors remedied the polyphyly of the genus by partitioning it into several new genera. The diagnostic characteristics of the genus are the following: (1) humeral spines are absent (small spine present in ''C. litoralis''); (2) digestive tract is white (translucent in ''Cochranella nola'') and the lobed liver is covered by a transparent hepatic peritoneum; ...

Synonym (biology)
The Botanical and Zoological Codes of nomenclature treat the concept of synonymy differently. * In botanical nomenclature, a synonym is a scientific name that applies to a taxon that (now) goes by a different scientific name. For example, Linnaeus was the first to give a scientific name (under the currently used system of scientific nomenclature) to the Norway spruce, which he called ''Pinus abies''. This name is no longer in use, so it is now a synonym of the current scientific name, ''Picea abies''. * In zoology, moving a species from one genus to another results in a different binomen, but the name is considered an alternative combination rather than a synonym. The concept of synonymy in zoology is reserved for two names at the same rank that refers to a taxon at that rank - for example, the name ''Papilio prorsa'' Linnaeus, 1758 is a junior synonym of ''Papilio levana'' Linnaeus, 1758, being names for different seasonal forms of the species now referred to as ''Araschnia leva ...
