Centralia (album)
''Centralia'' is the debut studio album by the American band Car Bomb. This was the band's first full-length release, following a 2004 demo. It is also the band's only release through Relapse Records, which dropped the band four years later in 2011. The album's title was named after the doomed town of Centralia, Pennsylvania, which was abandoned during an underground mine fire. The track's lyrical content and titles cover various topics - Cielo Drive (also known as 'Bloodbath Orgy') was named after the road on which one of the infamous Manson Family spree-killings were committed ( 10050 Cielo Drive), H5N1 is the medical abbreviation for the then-recent outbreak strain of Bird Flu, while 'M^6' covers neglect of a mother. Car Bomb (band)
Car Bomb (stylized as ar_Bomb'') is an American mathcore band from Long Island, New York, United States, that was initially formed in 2000. Their debut album, ''Centralia'', was released through Relapse Records on February 6, 2007. Car Bomb's style inspired later mathcore bands. Biography Car Bomb first came to be around the year 2000, when Bushwick residents Greg Kubacki and Michael Dafferner of the band Neck shared a rehearsal space under a Rockville Center, New York butcher with Elliot Hoffman and Jon Modell of the band Spooge. Over time, the bands became great friends and frequently visited each other's practices. In 2002, Modell, previously a touring bassist for Soilent Green, unsatisfied with the music his band was making, recruited Kubacki and Dafferner to form a side project called Car Bomb. Mathcore
Mathcore is a subgenre of hardcore punk and metalcore influenced by post-hardcore, extreme metal and math rock that developed during the 1990s. Bands in the genre emphasize complex and fluctuant rhythms through the use of irregular time signatures, polymeters, syncopations and tempo changes. Early mathcore lyrics were addressed from a realistic worldview and with a pessimistic, defiant, resentful or sarcastic point of view. In the 1990s, the hardcore punk scene started to embrace extreme metal openly. It also started to become highly ideological, with most of the popular bands being part of subcultures. Relapse Records is an American independent record label based in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania. It was founded by Matthew F. Jacobson in 1990. The label features many grindcore, death metal, metalcore and sludge metal artists. History The label was started by Matthew F. Jacobson in August, 1990 in his parents' basement in Aurora, Colorado. The first two releases on the label were 7-inch singles by the bands Velcro Overdose and Face of Decline, closely followed by three death metal bands that would become among the biggest on the label, Deceased, Suffocation, and Incantation. The album was first released online, reaching the #2 spot on Bandcamp.com's top sellers list during the first week of October 2012. "Most people will hear just random noise when listening to this record, but to us it's all really simple ideas. Centralia is a borough and near-ghost town in Columbia County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Its population has declined from 1,000 in 1980 to five residents in 2020 because a coal mine fire has been burning beneath the borough since 1962. Centralia, part of the Bloomsburg–Berwick metropolitan area, is the least-populated municipality in Pennsylvania. It is completely surrounded by Conyngham Township. All real estate in the borough was claimed under eminent domain in 1992 and condemned by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Centralia's ZIP code was discontinued by the Postal Service in 2002. 10050 Cielo Drive was the street address of a former luxury home in Benedict Canyon, in the west-central part of the Beverly Crest neighborhood of Los Angeles, bordering Beverly Hills, where three members of the Manson Family committed the Tate murders in 1969. The property had a main residence and a guest house. The main house had been occupied by various famous Hollywood and music industry figures. In 1994, both houses were demolished and a new house was constructed on the site, and the street address was changed to 10066 Cielo Drive. Architecture The original house was designed by Arthur W. Hawes in 1942 and completed in 1944 for French actress Michèle Morgan.
