Serve The People
"Serve the People" () is a political slogan which first appeared in Mao-era China, and the motto of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). It originates from the title of a speech by Mao Zedong, delivered on 8 September 1944. The slogan also became very popular in the United States due to the strong Maoist influence on the New Left, especially among the Red Guard Party, the Black Panther Party and the Yellow Brotherhood of West Los Angeles. Origins Mao Zedong wrote this speech to commemorate the death of a PLA soldier, Zhang Side, a participant in the Long March who died in the collapse of a kiln when he worked in Yan'an. Zhangjiakou
Zhangjiakou (; ; ) also known as Kalgan and by several other names, is a prefecture-level city in northwestern Hebei province in Northern China, bordering Beijing to the southeast, Inner Mongolia to the north and west, and Shanxi to the southwest. By 2019, its population was 4,650,000 inhabitants on , divided into 17 Counties and Districts. Wu Shezhou (; born 1958) is a general of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Ground Force. He has been Political Commissar of the Western Theater Command since January 2017. Biography Wu Shezhou was born in Hanchuan, Hubei Province in 1958, and served in the Guangzhou Military Region for most of his career. He served as Deputy Director of the Political Department of the Guangzhou MR until late 2012, when we was appointed Political Commissar of the Joint Logistics Department of the Guangzhou MR. Zhang Xudong
Zhang Xudong (; November 1962 – 1 October 2021) was a general ('' Shangjiang'') of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China. He was commander of the Western Theater Command. He was promoted to the rank of major general ('' shaojiang'') in July 2012, lieutenant general ('' zhongjiang'') in July 2018, and general (''Shangjiang'') in December 2020. The 83rd Group Army (), formerly the 54th Group Army, is a military formation of the Chinese People's Liberation Army Ground Forces (PLAGF). The Military Anthem of the People's Liberation Army (), also known as the March of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (), is a patriotic song of the People's Republic of China. Guangzhou Military Region
The Guangzhou Military Region was from 1955 to 2016 one of the People's Liberation Army PLA Military Regions, located in the south of the People's Republic of China. In May 1949, the Central China (Hua Zhong) Military Region (MR) was formed. In March 1955, it was divided into two, the Guangzhou MR and the Wuhan Military Region. When the Wuhan MR was disbanded in August 1985, its troops stationed around the Hubei province were assigned to the Guangzhou MR. The region was disestablished in 2016 and reorganised as the Southern Theater Command.
