Center City Tower was the working name of a formerly proposed skyscraper in Center City, Philadelphia, downtown Philadelphia. Designed and proposed by the firm now known as KlingStubbins (designers of Philadelphia's Penn Center, Philadelphia, Penn Center and Bell Atlantic Tower), the building would have risen to a height of 1,050 feet (320 m) and 75 stories, making it the tallest building in The United States outside New York and Chicago, surpassing the height of the Bank of America Plaza (Atlanta), Bank of America Plaza in Atlanta. KlingStubbins was an architectural, engineering, interior, and planning firm headquartered in Philadelphia, with offices in Cambridge, Massachusetts; Raleigh, North Carolina; San Francisco; Washington, D.C.; and Beijing. In 1982, the Franklin Institute awarded Vincent G. Kling the Frank P. Brown Medal. Firm history KlingStubbins was formed through the merger of two offices in 2007. Penn Center is the heart of Philadelphia's central business district. It takes its name from the nearly five million square foot office and retail complex it contains. Bell Atlantic Tower
Three Logan Square, formerly the Bell Atlantic Tower, is a 55-story skyscraper located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Standing 739 ft (225 m) tall to its structural top, the building encloses of office space. The building, designed by the Philadelphia-based architecture firm Kling Lindquist, was completed in 1991. A city ordinance dictates that no building within of the nearby Benjamin Franklin Parkway may rise taller than ; the tower stands just outside this zone. One Meridian Plaza Fire
One Meridian Plaza, formerly known as the Fidelity Mutual Life Building, Three Girard Plaza and Three Mellon Bank Center, was a 38- story high-rise office building in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The tower was designed by Vincent Kling & Associates and completed in 1972. On February 23, 1991, a twelve-alarm fire began on the 22nd floor and raged out of control for nineteen hours. Philadelphia firefighters fought the blaze but struggled due to a lack of power in the skyscraper and insufficient water pressure from the building's standpipes. Three firefighters died in the fire after becoming disoriented by heavy smoke. Firefighting efforts inside the building were eventually abandoned, due to fears the structure would collapse.
