Centenary Hospital (officially Scarborough Health Network, Centenary Hospital) is a hospital in Scarborough, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was opened on July 1, 1967, and was named in honour of the 100th anniversary of Canada. Since 2016, the hospital is operated by the Scarborough Health Network. History The hospital opened on July 1, 1967, as Scarborough Centenary Hospital and was the second hospital in the township of Scarborough, after the Scarborough General Hospital. Expansions were constructed in 1986 and 1991, when it became known as Centenary Health Centre. The hospital merged with the Ajax and Pickering General Hospital in 1998 to create the Rouge Valley Health System. Under the new network, the hospital was officially known as Rouge Valley Centenary. Scarborough Health Network (SHN) is a hospital network in Scarborough, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It operates the Scarborough General, Centenary, and Birchmount hospitals. The three are major community health hospitals with teaching affiliations to the University of Toronto Faculty of Medicine. History In 1998, The Salvation Army merged the operations of Scarborough General and Birchmount hospitals under its subsidiary The Scarborough Hospital, while Centenary Hospital was under the Rouge Valley Health System with latter hospital network dissolved, transferring Centenary Hospital's administration to The Scarborough Hospital. Canadian Centennial
The Canadian Centennial was a yearlong celebration held in 1967 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Canadian Confederation. Celebrations in Canada occurred throughout the year but culminated on Dominion Day, July 1, 1967. Commemorative coins were minted, that were different from typical issues with animals on each — the cent, for instance, had a dove on its reverse. Communities and organizations across Canada were encouraged to engage in Centennial projects to celebrate the anniversary. Lakeridge Health Ajax and Pickering is a hospital in Ajax, Ontario, Canada that is operated by Lakeridge Health. The hospital opened in 1954 as the ''Ajax and Pickering General Hospital''. It was founded in 1954 as the Ajax and Pickering General Hospital with 38 patient beds. New four-storey wings were added in 1964 and 1994. A major $80 million redevelopment project was completed in 2010. Almost 25 percent of the hospital was renovated. Management of the site was transferred from Rouge Valley Health System to Lakeridge Health effective December 1, 2016. Rouge Valley Health System (RVHS) was a hospital network in the province of Ontario, Canada. It was created in 1998 through the merger of Centenary Health Centre in Toronto and the Ajax and Pickering General Hospital in Ajax, serving the communities of Scarborough, Pickering, Ajax and Whitby. It was part of the Central-East Local Health Integration Network as mandated by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
