Celles, Houyet
Celles ( wa, Cele-dilé-Dinant) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Houyet, located in the province of Namur, Belgium. It is a member of the heritage group ''Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie'' ("The Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia"). It is served by Gendron-Celles railway station, located several kilometres south-west of the village centre, next to the river Lesse. The Château de Vêves is near the village. Wallonia
Wallonia (; french: Wallonie ), or ; nl, Wallonië ; wa, Waloneye or officially the Walloon Region (french: link=no, Région wallonne),; nl, link=no, Waals gewest; wa, link=no, Redjon walone is one of the three regions of Belgium—along with Flanders and Brussels. Houyet () is a municipality of Wallonia in the province of Namur, Belgium. On 1 January 2006 the municipality had 4,485 inhabitants. The total area is 122.31 km², giving a population density of 37 inhabitants per km². The municipality consists of the following districts: Celles, Ciergnon, Custinne, Finnevaux, Hour, Houyet, Hulsonniaux, Mesnil-Église, Mesnil-Saint-Blaise, and Wanlin. ''Les Plus Beaux Villages de Wallonie'' ( French; in English: "The Most Beautiful Villages of Wallonia") is a non-profit organisation formed in 1994 to promote, protect and develop a number of villages in Wallonia, Belgium. Lesse
The Lesse is a river in the Ardennes, in the Walloon region of Belgium. It is a right tributary to the river Meuse. The source of the Lesse is near Libramont-Chevigny, in the Belgian province of Luxembourg. The Lesse flows roughly in north-western direction. Near Han-sur-Lesse (municipality of Rochefort) the entire river goes underground, flowing through limestone caves. Many of the caves along the banks of the Lesse are important archaeological sites; these include the Trou de Chaleux (by the Cirque de Chaleux), and the Trou des Nutons and Trou du Frontal at Furfooz. Château De Vêves
The Castle of Vêves (french: Château de Vêves, ) occupies a rocky platform in Wallonia just outside the village of Celles, in the province of Namur, Belgium. It is classified as ''Major Heritage'' of Wallonia. History According to tradition, the site has been occupied by castles since the time of Pippin of Herstal (7th century). In the later Middle Ages, the area fell under control of the Beaufort family, which oversaw the construction of a stronghold here in about 1230. The present castle, in the form of an irregular pentagon and flanked by six round towers of varying size, dates largely from around 1410. Successive restorations modified especially the walls of the inner courtyard, one of which is lined with a distinctive half-timbered gallery of two levels, and another of which was given a red brick facade in the Louis XV style. The Battle of the Bulge, also known as the Ardennes Offensive, was the last major German offensive (military), offensive military campaign, campaign on the Western Front (World War II), Western Front during World War II.
