Celestino Iriarte Miró
Celestino Iriarte Miró (December 9, 1887 – January 1967) was a Puerto Rican politician and longtime Senator. He was a member of the Senate of Puerto Rico from 1920 to 1944. Biography Celestino Iriarte Miró was born in 1887 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He worked at the Telégrafo of San Juan and Aguadilla between 1905 and 1910. Iriarte graduated as an attorney from the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico in 1910. Iriarte was President of the Union Youth of San Juan from 1910 to 1912, and a delegate of the Union Party to direct elections in Moca in 1912. He also presided the local Committee of the Union Party of San Juan from 1912 to 1924. Iriarte ran for the Puerto Rico House of Representatives in 1917 for the Union Party, but lost. However, he was elected to the Senate of Puerto Rico in 1920. He was reelected in 1924 and 1928, this time with the Alianza Puertorriqueña. Puerto Rico Senatorial District I, also known as the Senatorial District of San Juan, is one of the eight senatorial districts of Puerto Rico. It is currently represented by Nitza Morán (from the New Progressive Party). Rafael Martínez Nadal (April 22, 1877 – July 6, 1941) was a Puerto Rican politician, senator, journalist, and businessman. He was the third president of the Senate of Puerto Rico, serving from 1933 to 1941. Early years Rafael Martínez Nadal was born on April 22, 1877 in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. He was an orphan from an early age, since his mother, Estebanía Nadal Freyre died hours after his birth, and his father, Rafael Martínez Santana, when he was only five years old. Santa María Magdalena De Pazzis Cemetery
__NOTOC__ The Santa María Magdalena de Pazzis Cemetery is a colonial-era cemetery located in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. It is the final resting place of many of Puerto Rico's most prominent natives and residents. Construction began in 1863 under the auspices of Ignacio Mascaro. The cemetery is located outside the walls of Fort San Felipe del Morro fortress, one of the island's most famous landmarks. The average height of the wall is 40 feet and the width ranges from 15 to 20 feet. It was named in honor of Saint Maria Magdalena de Pazzi. According to Rafael Rodríguez, Chaplain and director of pastoral services at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón located in the Santurce district of the capital, the location of the cemetery is central to the Puerto Rican belief in the separation of death and life.
