Cedrick Banks
Cedrick Banks (born December 16, 1981) is an American former professional basketball player who last played for Cholet Basket of the LNB Pro A. High school and college Banks starred at Westinghouse High School in Chicago. He was named ''Chicago Sun Times'' Player of the Year as a senior in 2000, ahead of other area standouts such as Dwyane Wade of Richards High School and Eddy Curry of Thornwood High School. Banks led Westinghouse to the 2000 state championship game, where he scored 22 points, but his team lost to West Aurora High School. After graduating high school, Banks went on to play for the University of Illinois at Chicago. He redshirted his first season because of academic problems, then led his team in scoring (13.6 points) in 2001–02. Over the next three seasons, Banks earned three All-Horizon League First Team nods and was a five-time Horizon League Player of the Week. Horizon League
The Horizon League is an 11-school collegiate athletic conference in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I, whose members are located in and near the Great Lakes region. The Horizon League founded in 1979 as the Midwestern City Conference. The conference changed its name to Midwestern Collegiate Conference in 1985 and then the Horizon League in 2001. The conference started with a membership of six teams and has fluctuated in size with 24 different schools as members at different times. The League currently has 11 members. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university. However, in a redshirt year, student athletes may attend classes at the college or university, practice with an athletic team, and "suit up" (wear a team uniform) for play – but they may compete in only a limited number of games (see " Use of status" section). Using this mechanism, a student athlete has at most five academic years to use the four years of eligibility, thus becoming what is termed a fifth-year senior. West Aurora High School, or WAHS, is a public four-year high school located in Aurora, Illinois. It is part of West Aurora Public School District 129. The school is also referred to as "West," and "West High,". History High school classes were first offered in 1867 at Stone School (now defunct). The first graduating class of five students had their commencement in 1870. From 1905 until the 1950s the high school was located in a building on Blackhawk Avenue (so named after the school's athletics mascot). Eddy Anthony Curry Jr. (born December 5, 1982) is an American former professional basketball player. Coming directly out of Thornwood High School in South Holland, Illinois, Curry was selected fourth overall in the 2001 NBA draft by the Chicago Bulls. Curry played for the Bulls until 2005, then played for the New York Knicks from 2005 to 2010. Curry played for the Miami Heat in the season and was part of the Heat's 2012 championship team.
