Cedergren Medal
The Cedergren Medal is a rarely granted honor awarded to outstanding scientists in electrical engineering by the Cedergren Foundation. Only 14 have been issued since the recognition was created in 1914. Mathematics genius and electrical engineering pioneer Charles P. Steinmetz was the first recipient of the honor's silver medal. The award is administered on behalf of the foundation by the KTH - Royal Institute of Technology, one of Europe's leading technical and engineering universities. In addition to funding the honor, the foundation, which was established in 1909, also uses its endowment fund's investment returns for scholarships to Swedish electro technicians. Namesake Henrik Tore Cedergren (1853-1909) was the founder of Stockholms Allmänna Telefon AB which merged with Lars Magnus Ericsson’s company in 1918 to become Allmänna Telefonaktiebolaget L M Ericsson. The KTH Royal Institute of Technology ( sv, Kungliga Tekniska högskolan, lit=Royal Institute of Technology), abbreviated KTH, is a public research university in Stockholm, Sweden. Lars Magnus Ericsson
Lars Magnus Ericsson (; 5 May 1846 – 17 December 1926) was a Swedish inventor, entrepreneur and founder of telephone equipment manufacturer Ericsson ( incorporated as ''Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson''). Lars Magnus was born in Värmskog, Värmland, and grew up in the small village of Vegerbol located between Karlstad and Arvika. At the age of 12, Ericsson's father died forcing him to seek work as a miner. He worked until he had enough money to leave the village and move to Stockholm in 1867. He then worked for six years for an instrument maker named ''Öllers & Co.'' who mainly created telegraph equipment. Ernst Alexanderson
Ernst Frederick Werner Alexanderson (January 25, 1878 – May 14, 1975) was a Swedish-American electrical engineer, who was a pioneer in radio and television development. He invented the Alexanderson alternator, an early radio transmitter used between 1906 and the 1930s for longwave long distance radio transmission. Alexanderson also created the amplidyne, a direct current amplifier used during the Second World War for controlling anti-aircraft guns. Background Alexanderson was born in Uppsala, Sweden. John Robinson Pierce
John Robinson Pierce (March 27, 1910 – April 2, 2002), was an American engineer and author. He did extensive work concerning radio communication, microwave technology, computer music, psychoacoustics, and science fiction. Additionally to his professional career he wrote science fiction for many years using the names John Pierce, John R. Pierce, and J. J. Coupling. Born in Des Moines, Iowa, he earned his PhD from Caltech, and died in Sunnyvale, California, from complications of Parkinson's Disease. Hannes Alfvén
Hannes Olof Gösta Alfvén (; 30 May 1908 – 2 April 1995) was a Swedish electrical engineer, plasma physicist and winner of the 1970 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on magnetohydrodynamics (MHD). He described the class of MHD waves now known as Alfvén waves. He was originally trained as an electrical power engineer and later moved to research and teaching in the fields of plasma physics and electrical engineering. Björn Ottersten (born 1961) is a Swedish educator, researcher, and electrical engineer who is the co-inventor of Space/Spatial Division Multiple Access (SDMA) technology.
