Cayana Airstrip is an airstrip serving the villages around Kajana in the Sipaliwini District of Suriname. The runway is just west of Kajana, across the Suriname River. Kajana, Suriname
Kajana (also spelled Cajana and Kayana) is a village in Sipaliwini District, Suriname. It lies on the Gaan-lio (Gran Rio), which together with the Pikin Lio (Little Rio) forms the Suriname River. The population call themselves Kadosi-nengre after Cardoso who was the owner of the plantation they ran away from. The village is home to Maroon (people), Maroons of the Saramaka tribe. The town has a population of about 200 people. The town has a first-aid medical center, a radio station called Radio Thijs, a primary school, and a locally owned kindergarten. Sipaliwini is the largest district of Suriname, located in the south. Sipaliwini is the only district that does not have a regional capital, as it is directly administered by the national government in Paramaribo. History Sipaliwini was created in 1983 and has a population of 37,065 and an area of The district is nearly 4 times as large as the other 9 districts of Suriname combined; however, most of the Sipaliwini is almost completely covered by rainforest. The Suriname River (Dutch: ''Surinamerivier'') is 480 km long and flows through the country Suriname. Its sources are located in the Guiana Highlands on the border between the Wilhelmina Mountains and the Eilerts de Haan Mountains (where it is known as the Gran Rio). Zorg en Hoop Airport is an airport serving general aviation in the city of Paramaribo, Suriname. It is west of the Suriname River, between the city quarters of Zorg en Hoop and Flora.
