Cavite's 7th Congressional District
Cavite's 7th congressional district is one of the eight congressional districts of the Philippines in the province of Cavite. It has been represented in the House of Representatives of the Philippines since 2010. The district consists of Cavite's ''de facto'' capital city of Trece Martires and adjacent municipalities of Amadeo, Indang and Tanza. It is currently vacant for the incoming 19th Congress since its previous representative Jesus Crispin Remulla assumed the position of Secretary of Justice. Abraham Tolentino
Abraham "Bambol" Ng Tolentino (born February 23, 1964) is a Filipino politician who currently serves as the Mayor of Tagaytay and President of the Philippine Olympic Committee. He previously served as representative of Cavite's 8th district from 2019 to 2022 and the 7th district from 2013 to 2019. Political career In 1998, he was elected as City Councilor of Tagaytay and served until 2004. He ran for Mayor in 2004 and won; he was re-elected in 2007 and 2010. In 2013, he defeated Gilbert Remulla as Congressman of the newly-created 7th district of Cavite. He was re-elected in 2016 and in 2019, this time at the newly-created 8th district. Ternate, officially the Municipality of Ternate ( tgl, Bayan ng Ternate, cbk, Municipio de Ternate), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Cavite, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 24,653 people. Formerly known as Bahra, the municipality is named after Ternate island of Indonesia where migrants from then Dutch East Indies originated. History The Merdicas (also spelled Mardicas or Mardikas) were Catholic natives of the islands of Ternate and Tidore of the Moluccas, converted during the Portuguese occupation of the islands by Jesuit missionaries. The islands were later captured by the Spanish who vied for their control with the Dutch. Tagaytay
Tagaytay, officially the City of Tagaytay ( fil, Lungsod ng Tagaytay), is a 2nd class component city in the province of Cavite, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 85,330 people. It is one of the country's most popular destinations for domestic tourism because of its scenery and cooler climate provided by its altitude. Tagaytay overlooks Taal Lake in Batangas and provides views of Taal Volcano Island in the middle of the lake through various vantage points situated in the city. Tagaytay is relatively close to the capital city of Manila, only away via Aguinaldo Highway, providing an easy escape for the locals from the heat of the huge metropolis. It is from Imus. Naic, officially the Municipality of Naic ( tgl, Bayan ng Naic), is a 1st class municipality in the province of Cavite, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 160,987 people. Naic has a land area of 76.24 square kilometers. Mendez, officially the Municipality of Mendez-Nuñez ( tgl, Bayan ng Mendez), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Cavite, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 34,879 people. Etymology The municipality of Mendez-Nuñez was originally known as ''"Gahitan"'', one of the many barrios of Indang. Maragondon, officially the Municipality of Maragondon ( tgl, Bayan ng Maragondon), is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Cavite, Philippines. Magallanes, officially the Municipality of Magallanes ( tgl, Bayan ng Magallanes), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Cavite, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 23,851 people. The municipality is named after Ferdinand Magellan, who was known in Spanish language, Spanish as Fernando de Magallanes. History Magallanes began its history as a barrio called ''Panitan'', then a part of the municipality of Maragondon, Cavite, Maragondon. Panitan was derived from the Tagalog word ''"panit"'', meaning "to remove the bark of a tree". General Emilio Aguinaldo, officially the Municipality of General Emilio Aguinaldo ( tgl, Bayan ng Heneral Emilio Aguinaldo), is a 5th class municipality in the province of Cavite, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 23,973 people. Etymology The town is also known by its former official name of Bailen. The municipality's current official name was adopted in 1965 and is named after Emilio Aguinaldo, the president of the First Philippine Republic, who died the year before the rename. In 2012, municipality administrators voted to revert the town's name back to Bailen; however, this has yet to be ratified. History The municipality of General Emilio Aguinaldo used to be a separate Catholic parish in the town of adjacent Maragondon.
