Cavan County Hurling Team
The Cavan county hurling team represents Cavan in hurling and is governed by Cavan GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the Lory Meagher Cup and the National Hurling League. Cavan's home ground is Breffni Park, Cavan. The team's manager is Ollie Bellew. History 1908–2011 Cavan represented Ulster in the semi-final of the 1908 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, but lost the delayed Ulster final to Derry. Cavan reached the Ulster final six times, but never won the competition. Cavan won the Ulster Junior Hurling Championship in 1983 and 1985, as well as Division 4 of the National Hurling League in 1983. After an extended period of poor results, on 26 April 2011, Cavan announced that they would withdraw from Senior hurling for the foreseeable future, citing poor attendance at training and lack of numbers. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. The objective of the game is for players to use an ash wood stick called a hurley (in Irish a ', pronounced or ) to hit a small ball called a ' between the opponent's goalposts either over the crossbar for one point or under the crossbar into a net guarded by a goalkeeper for three points. 1982–83 National Hurling League
The 1982–83 National Hurling League was the 52nd season of the National Hurling League. Division 1 Division 1 saw a major restructuring with the abolition of the fourteen-team top flight which had previously been divided into two groups of seven teams. For the 1982-83 season, Division 1 was limited to a single group of eight teams. Kilkenny came into the season as defending champions of the 1981-82 season. On 24 April 1983, Kilkenny won the title after a 2-14 to 2-12 win over Limerick in the final. It was their 5th league title overall and their second in succession. Leitrim County Hurling Team
The Leitrim County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Lúthchleas Gael Coiste Chontae Liatroma) or Leitrim GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Leitrim. The county board is also responsible for the Leitrim inter-county teams. The county football team play in the Connacht Senior Football Championship and compete in Division 4 of the National Football League. Considered "Connacht's traditional minnows" and "one of the GAA's Cinderella counties",, Leitrim are never seriously seen as likely to win a major title. 2023 National Hurling League
The 2023 National Hurling League, known for sponsorship reasons as the Allianz Hurling League, was the 92nd season of the National Hurling League, an annual hurling competition held in Ireland for county teams. Three English county teams also feature. Waterford were the title holders. It took place between 4 February and 9 April. Croke Park ( ga, Páirc an Chrócaigh, ) is a Gaelic games stadium in Dublin, Ireland. Named after Archbishop Thomas Croke, it is referred to as Croker by GAA fans and locals. It serves as both the principal national stadium of Ireland and headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). The 2021 Lory Meagher Cup was the 13th staging of the Lory Meagher Cup hurling championship. Competition Format Cup format The format was changed for 2021, with 5 teams playing across two groups, one with 3 teams and one with 2 teams based on an open draw. Group A featured 3 teams and was played in a single Round Robin format with each team having one home game and one away game. Group B featured 2 teams who played a single fixture. 2018 National Hurling League
The 2018 National Hurling League was the 87th season of the National Hurling League for county teams. Wexford finished top of Division 1B in 2017 and were promoted to Division 1A for 2018. Galway finished second in Division 1B in 2017 and so missed out on promotion, even though they subsequently won the Division 1 league final. Cavan re-entered the National Hurling League in Division 3B, having previously withdrawn. Lancashire also entered in Division 3B for the first time. The 2017 Lory Meagher Cup was the ninth staging of the Lory Meagher Cup hurling championship since its establishment by the Gaelic Athletic Association in 2009. It is the fourth tier of senior inter-county championship hurling. Louth, the 2016 champions, play in the Nicky Rackard Cup having won promotion.
