Causes (band)
Causes were a four-piece indie pop band who were based in the Netherlands. History The band is composed of British singer/songwriter Rupert Blackman (vocals), Jan Schröder (guitar), Simon Boeing-Messing (drums) and Robert Pronk (bass). Blackman moved to Amsterdam from the UK and started busking on the street. He regularly sold out of homemade CD’s and interest quickly garnered. He signed a record deal in Benelux with Play It Again Sam. Soon after he met guitarist Jan Schroder and Causes was swiftly formed. The band’s debut single "Teach Me How To Dance With You" was released in late 2014 in Benelux and proved an immediate success; first being playlisted on Radio 538, with all other major radio stations soon following suit. It quickly gained Platinum status and was followed up by a second, also very successful single "Walk on Water" which was premiered with a performance on 3FM June 4 alongside another RTL Late Night TV performance. Indie Pop
Indie pop (also typeset as indie-pop or indiepop) is a music genre and subculture that combines guitar pop with DIY ethic in opposition to the style and tone of mainstream pop music. It originated from British post-punk in the late 1970s and subsequently generated a thriving fanzine, Independent record label, label, and club and gig circuit. Compared to its counterpart, indie rock, the genre is more melodic, less abrasive, and relatively angst-free. Seth Brooks Binzer (born August 23, 1974), better known by his stage name Shifty Shellshock, is an American musician, best known for being a co-founder and front man of the rap rock band Crazy Town, known for their hit song "Butterfly". He has also had a solo music career and appeared in the reality television series ''Celebrity Rehab'' 1 and 2 and '' Sober House'' 1 and 2. Paradiso (Amsterdam)
Paradiso is a Dutch music venue and cultural centre located in Amsterdam. History It is housed in a converted former church building that dates from the nineteenth century and that was used until 1965 as the meeting hall for a liberal Dutch religious group known as the "Vrije Gemeente" (Free Congregation). It is located on ''de Weteringschans'', near the ''Leidseplein'', one of the nightlife and tourism centers of the city. The main concert hall in the former church interior has high ceilings and two balcony rings overlooking the stage area, with three large illuminated church windows above the stage. The acoustics are rather echoey, but improvements have been made over the years. In addition to the main concert hall, there are two smaller cafe stages, on an upper floor and in the basement. Appelpop
Appelpop is a two-day pop festival in the Dutch town of Tiel that is held in the second weekend of September, a week in advance of the ''Fruitcorso'' event. The festival was introduced in 1991 in the town centre with a few hundred visitors, but it soon attracted more public and moved to a parking place adjacent to the river Waal. With some 180,000 visitors in 2008, it is the largest free festival in the Netherlands that lasts for more than a day. During the years, many bands (mostly Dutch bands) played on this festival. Pinkpop Festival
The Pinkpop Festival is an annual music festival held at Landgraaf, Netherlands. It is usually held on the Pentecost weekend (''Pinksteren'' in Dutch, hence the name). If Pentecost falls on an early date in May, the festival is held later in June. Starting in 1970, at Burgemeester Damen Sportpark in the city of Geleen, Pinkpop is the oldest and longest running annual dedicated pop and rock music festival in the world. Nowadays, Pinkpop is a three-day festival, from Saturday through Monday when on Pentecost weekend, or Friday through Sunday otherwise, with a 60,000 people per day capacity, and with performances on 4 separate stages. Radio 538 () is a Dutch commercial radio station that was founded in Hilversum, Netherlands in 1992. It is the second-most listened to radio station in the Netherlands. PIAS Recordings (formerly Play It Again Sam) is a Belgian record label founded in 1983 by Kenny Gates and Michel Lambot. Play It Again Sam expanded along with other European independent labels in the early 1980s. Play It Again Sam's prominent early artists were electronic-rock acts like Front 242, Meat Beat Manifesto and The Young Gods.
