Christopher Cattan
Seigneur Christophe de Cattan, also called Christopher Cattan (flourished 1530s-1540s, died before 1558), presumed Francophone and Anglophone variants of the Italian name Cristoforo Cattaneo (a form sometimes used for him in current scholarship), was an Italian humanist author of the second quarter of the sixteenth century. Of Italian stock but Genevan origin, he served as a man-at-arms under French command in France, and wrote in French. He is known as the learned author of a work about Geomancy, which was published posthumously in 1558 in Paris as ''La Géomance du Seigneur Christofe de Cattan'', with further printings in 1567 and 1577. Most if not all of what is known about the author derives from information in the book itself. For his authorities Cattan names particularly three Geomantic texts of importance to him. Simonetta Vespucci (née Cattaneo; 1453 – 26 April 1476), nicknamed ''la bella Simonetta'', was an Italian noblewoman from Genoa, the wife of Marco Vespucci of Florence and the cousin-in-law of Amerigo Vespucci. She was known as the greatest beauty of her age in Italy, and was allegedly the model for many paintings by Sandro Botticelli, Piero di Cosimo, and other Florentine painters. Sante Cattaneo or Santo Cattaneo (8 August 1739 – 1819) was an Italian painter of the Neoclassic period, mainly active in Brescia. He was also called ''Santino''. He was born at Salò, Italy. His parents traveled away and consigned him at age three to thirteen to his aunt. He then moved to Brescia to live with his mother, who worked in wool looms. He at first practised wood-engraving, but afterwards studied painting under Antonio Dusi of Brescia and then, with Francesco Monti (Bologna). He studied in 1776 at the Accademia Clementina of Bologna. He settled at Brescia in 1773, and in 1810 became professor of drawing in the Art academy of that city. He died in Brescia. Peter Joseph Cattaneo MBE (born 1 July 1964) is a British filmmaker. He is most known for directing the comedy film ''The Full Monty'', for which he won the MTV Movie Award for Best New Filmmaker. Leonardo Cattaneo della Volta (1487 - 1572) was the 52nd Doge of the Republic of Genoa. Biography Son of Angelo Cattaneo della Volta and Maria Cattaneo di Quilico, he was born in Genoa around 1487. His noble and needy figure is remembered in the historical records of the Genoese characters for having founded, in a period of maximum famine, the "Officio dei Poveri", made up of a magistrate together with eight Genoese citizens who, together with the parallel construction of numerous public barns, managed to coordinate and therefore provide support to about four thousand needy inhabitants. Lazzaro Cattaneo (Sarzana, Italy, 1560 - Hangzhou, China, 19 January 1640), (), was an Italian Jesuit missionary who invented the first tone markings for Chinese transcription. Early life Cattaneo was born into a noble family at Sarzana, near Genoa, Italy. In 1581, he entered the Collegio di S Andrea of the Society of Jesus in Rome. He removed to Portugal in 1585 where he completed his training and was ordained in 1587. He sailed for the Portuguese colony of Goa, in India, on 1 April 1588, and, by 1589, became superior of the mission at Fishery Coast. Chinese mission Cattaneo joined Matteo Ricci in Shaoguan (formerly Shaozhou), Guangdong, in 1594, after first having spent a year in Macao. Hernán Cattáneo (; born 4 March 1965) is an Argentine house DJ. He produces electronic music, mostly progressive house. Musical career Cattáneo began his professional career playing in the early 1990s for FM Z95, a local radio station largely responsible for the diffusion of electronic dance music in Argentina. In 1996, he won the residency at Clubland Pacha in Buenos Aires. Sometime during his residency, renowned DJ Paul Oakenfold came to perform at Pacha while on tour. Paul was so impressed with his craft, that he asked Hernan to open for him on his tours globally. This exposed him to an international crowd that he otherwise may not have reached outside of Argentina.
