Catriona Jeffries Gallery
Catriona Jeffries is an art gallery in Vancouver, British Columbia, that has been in operation since 1994. It focuses on the post conceptual art practices which have emerged from Vancouver and the critical relationships between these practices and particular international artists. It is recognized as one of the most important commercial contemporary art galleries in Vancouver, and one of the only ones that has an international reputation. The gallery shows work by well-known Vancouver artists such as Ian Wallace, Brian Jungen, and Geoffrey Farmer. Art Gallery
An art gallery is a room or a building in which visual art is displayed. In Western cultures from the mid-15th century, a gallery was any long, narrow covered passage along a wall, first used in the sense of a place for art in the 1590s. The long gallery in Elizabethan and Jacobean houses served many purposes including the display of art. Historically, art is displayed as evidence of status and wealth, and for religious art as objects of ritual or the depiction of narratives. The first galleries were in the palaces of the aristocracy, or in churches. As art collections grew, buildings became dedicated to art, becoming the first art museums. Among the modern reasons art may be displayed are aesthetic enjoyment, education, historic preservation, or for marketing purposes. Rochelle Goldberg
Rochelle Goldberg (born 1984 in Vancouver, Canada) is a contemporary artist who lives and works in Vancouver and Berlin. Goldberg is best known for her sculptural works that challenge the fixity of the art object. Composed of living, ephemeral, and synthetic materials, ranging from chia seeds, oil, to ceramic, Goldberg's works are structured by "the logic of intraction," the artist's phrase for "an unruly set of relations in which the boundary between one entity is another is continually undermined." In her practice, intraction unfolds on both levels of form and content, rendering her sculptures "ontologically unreliable" and questioning "the distinction between living form and inert matter" through contact and permeation. At the same time, vision as "the privileged mode of access to knowledge" is cast into crisis. Kevin Gerard Schmidt (born August 16, 1988) is an American actor, known best for his role as Henry Baker in ''Cheaper by the Dozen'' and '' Cheaper by the Dozen 2'' and as Noah Newman in '' The Young and the Restless''. Judy Radul (born in 1962 in Lillooet, British Columbia) is a Canadian multidisciplinary artist, writer and educator. Damian Moppett
Damian Moppett (born 1969), is an artist whose practice spans sculpture, painting, drawing, photography and video and who often uses one medium as the starting-point for another. Elizabeth McIntosh (born 1967, Simcoe, Ontario) is a Canadian painter. Her work explores geometric abstraction. Her work is in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada and Art Gallery of Ontario. She lives and works in Vancouver. Liz Magor
Liz Magor (born 1948) is a Canadian visual artist based in Vancouver. She is well known for her sculptures that address themes of history, shelter and survival through objects that reference still life, domesticity and wildlife. She often re-purposes domestic objects such as blankets and is known for using mold making techniques. Biography Magor was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1948. Magor studied at the University of British Columbia from 1966-1968, and Parsons School of Design in New York from 1968-1970. Subsequently, she completed her diploma at the Vancouver School of Art in 1971. She had a career as a respected educator at the Ontario College of Art and Design before moving to Vancouver to continue her teaching at the Emily Carr University of Art and Design where she continued to be major influence on a younger generation of artists.
