In 1952, Michael Rusnak was appointed as a pastor of the church. It was during this time that the congregation acquired the B'Nai Israel Synagogue on Shaw Street in Toronto and converted it to a church. Antimins
The antimins (from the Greek , ''Antimension'': "instead of the table"), is one of the most important furnishings of the altar in many Eastern Christian liturgical traditions. It is a rectangular piece of cloth of either linen or silk, typically decorated with representations of the Descent of Christ from the Cross, the Four Evangelists, and inscriptions related to the Passion. A small relic of a martyr is sewn into it. In the Western Rite, the altar stone, serves a similar function. It is not permitted to celebrate the Divine Liturgy without an antimins. Michael Rusnak, C.Ss.R., (21 August 1921 – 16 January 2003) was an American-born member of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer, commonly known as the Redemptorist Fathers, who was appointed Eparch of the Slovak Catholic Eparchy of Saints Cyril and Methodius of Toronto by Pope John Paul II in 1980.
