Catchphrase (British Game Show)
''Catchphrase'' is a British game show based on the short-lived American game show of the same name. It originally aired in the United Kingdom between 12 January 1986 and 23 April 2004. A revival premiered on ITV1 on 7 April 2013 and is still running as of 2024. ''Catchphrase'' was presented by Northern Irish comedian Roy Walker from its 1986 premiere until 1999, airing weekly at night. Nick Weir took the programme over in 2000 and hosted it until the end of series 16 on 23 April 2004. Mark Curry replaced Weir for the final series, which moved to a daytime slot and ran from 24 June to 19 December 2002. On 27 August 2012, a revived pilot was made by STV Studios and Digital Rights Group (DRG) with new host Stephen Mulhern. The original format remains, although there are now three contestants instead of two, and the show has also been updated with new 3D graphics and a new concluding game. Martin Allen Pasetta (June 16, 1932 – May 21, 2015) was an American television producer and director, best known for his work on the telecasts for multiple awards shows, including the Oscars, the Grammys, and the AFI Life Achievement Awards. He also directed ''The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour'' along with the game shows ''Wheel of Fortune (U.S. game show), Wheel of Fortune'' and ''Love Connection''. ''Catch Phrase'' is an American game show which ran from September 16, 1985, through January 10, 1986, in syndication. The object of the show was to solve "catch phrases", which were animated picture puzzles designed to represent objects or sayings. Art James was the host of the show, his last game show hosting job before he retired from television, and John Harlan was the announcer. The program was created by Steve Radosh and produced by Pasetta Productions, with Telepictures distributing. Although ''Catch Phrase'' did not succeed in its American run, the format found success in other countries. The British ''Catchphrase'' premiered two days after the American series came to an end in 1986 and aired weekly until 2004 and daily in late 2002 on the ITV network, which brought the series back in 2013. ''Family Catchphrase'' was a family game show broadcast on Challenge (TV channel), The Family Channel.
