Catawissa is a small unincorporated area, unincorporated community in Franklin County, Missouri, Franklin County, Missouri, United States, on the St. Louis & San Francisco Railroad, 39 miles from St. Louis, Missouri, St. Louis and four miles south-southwest of Pacific, Missouri, Pacific. It is located at the junction of Route N and Route O, southwest of Pacific. Winch Creek flows past the eastern margin of the community. Catawissa was laid out in 1858, and most likely was named after Catawissa, Pennsylvania. A post office called Catawissa has been in operation since 1860. Catawissa is a borough in Columbia County, Pennsylvania. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The population was 1,539 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Bloomsburg– Berwick Metropolitan Statistical Area. Catawissa is twinned with Uxbridge, Ontario. The historic link began in 1805, when the Uxbridge area was granted by the British crown to Dr. Christopher Beswick, first medical doctor north of the Oak Ridges Moraine. While not a Quaker, he lived in Catawissa before moving to the Uxbridge area. Beswick Lane in the Ontario town is named after him. History The area where Catawissa now is was originally owned by William Henry in 1769. Catawissa was laid out in 1787. At this time it was referred to as "Hughesburg" or "Catawissey". Catawissa Township is a township near the borough of Catawissa, Columbia County, Pennsylvania. It is part of Northeastern Pennsylvania. The population was 904 at the 2020 census. History Catawissa Township is the oldest municipality in Columbia County. It was first formed in 1785 from parts of Augusta Township. When first formed, Catawissa Township stretched from Montour County in the west to western Schuylkill County in the east. The creations of Roaring Creek Township, Franklin Township, and Main Township in 1832, 1843, and 1844 respectively, reduced the size of Catawissa Township significantly. The first Native Americans to settle in the vicinity of the township were the Piscatawese, Conoys, or Gangawese, who built a wigwam in Catawissa. Catawissa Bottling Company is a producer of soft drinks located in Catawissa, Pennsylvania. The company also distributes beer, ice, cups, taps, and related items. Catawissa Bottling Company was formed in 1926, when the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture issued a license to bottle soda to Bruce Gregorowicz and his wife Suzanne Wegronovich Gregorowicz. The couple purchased a creamery in Catawissa and converted it to a bottling facility.
