Performance Handicap Racing Fleet (PHRF) is a handicapping system used for yacht racing in North America. It allows dissimilar classes of sailboats to be raced against each other. The aim is to cancel out the inherent advantages and disadvantages of each class of boats, so that results reflect crew skill rather than equipment superiority. PHRF is used mainly for larger sailboats (i.e., 7 meters and above). For dinghy racing, the Portsmouth yardstick handicapping system is more likely to be used. The handicap number assigned to a class of yachts is based on the yacht's speed relative to a theoretical yacht with a rating of 0. The Douglas 31 and Douglas 32 are a series of Canadian sailboats, that were designed by Ted Brewer and first built in 1967. The last boats of this design were built in 1982 and delivered as kits. Production The design was commissioned by Douglas Badgley, designed by Brewer as the Douglas 31 and initially built by Badgley's company, Douglas Marine Craft in Port Stanley, Ontario, Canada, with production commencing in 1967. Douglas Marine Craft went out of business in 1970-71 and creditors seized the company assets, including the design's molds. The Corvette 31 is a Canadian sailboat, which was designed by C&C Design in 1965. The type is named in honour of the Corvette warship class. Production The boat was built by C&C Yachts at their Belleville Marine Yard (Morch Marine) in Belleville, Ontario Canada. Between the start of production in 1966 and production end in 1971. Some sources claim a total of 171 examples were completed, while others say 167. In production year 1968/69, 41 examples were completed and in 1969/70 production peaked at 52 completed.
