Cassia County, Idaho
Cassia County is a county in the U.S. state of Idaho. As of the 2020 Census the county had a population of 24,655. The county seat and largest city is Burley. Cassia County is included in the Burley, ID Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The first Europeans explored the Milner area in Cassia County in 1811. It was trappers who initially developed the Oregon Trail, which ran on the county's northern border. The Raft River's junction with the Oregon Trail marked the split for the California Trail. While the Oregon and California trails brought hundreds of thousands of emigrants through Cassia County, it also brought settlers. A stage line through the county was established between Kelton, Utah and Boise, Idaho in 1869. A stage station existed at City of Rocks. Cassia County Courthouse
The Cassia County Courthouse, located at Fifteenth Street and Overland Avenue in Burley, is the county courthouse serving Cassia County, Idaho. History Built in 1939, the courthouse was the third space used by county government and the county's first large, independent courthouse. The Works Progress Administration funded the building, and Twin Falls architect Burton E. Morse provided its Art Deco design. The courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 27, 1987. Design The brick building's design consists of a three-story tower above the central entrance and two-story wings on either side. Brick pilasters topped with terra cotta divide the building into entrance and window bays. Idaho's 2nd Congressional District
Idaho's 2nd congressional district is one of two congressional districts in the U.S. state of Idaho, in the eastern portion of the state. Beginning with the 2012 election, the district expanded westward and now includes most of Boise, the state capital and largest city. The district is currently represented by Mike Simpson, a Republican of Idaho Falls. A former dentist in Blackfoot, he was first elected in 1998; the seat opened when his predecessor Mike Crapo successfully ran for the U.S. Senate. The 2012 United States presidential election was the 57th quadrennial presidential election, held on Tuesday, November 6, 2012. Incumbent Democratic President Barack Obama and his running mate, incumbent Vice President Joe Biden, were re-elected to a second term. Clement Leroy "Butch" Otter (born May 3, 1942) is an American businessman and politician who served as the 32nd governor of Idaho from 2007 to 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he was elected in 2006, and reelected in 2010, and 2014. Otter served as lieutenant governor from 1987 to 2001 and in U.S. Congress from the first district from 2001 to 2007. Fred Wood (politician)
Fredrick Leslie Wood III (born December 1, 1945) is an American physician and politician who has served as a member of the Idaho House of Representatives since 2006. Early life and education Wood was raised in Homedale, Idaho. Beginning in the eighth grade, Wood attended Georgia Military Academy. He earned his bachelor's degree from Tulane University and his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, after which he served in the United States Air Force. Career Wood moved to Burley in 1977 where he was a practicing physician. From 1996 to 2004, Wood served on the Idaho Fish and Game Commission. When long-time legislator and former Speaker of the Idaho House of Representatives Bruce Newcomb decided to not seek reelection in 2006, Wood entered a four-way race for the Republican nomination which he won.
