Fred Wood (politician)
Fredrick Leslie Wood III (born December 1, 1945) is an American physician and politician who has served as a member of the Idaho House of Representatives since 2006. Early life and education Wood was raised in Homedale, Idaho. Beginning in the eighth grade, Wood attended Georgia Military Academy. He earned his bachelor's degree from Tulane University and his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, after which he served in the United States Air Force. Career Wood moved to Burley in 1977 where he was a practicing physician. From 1996 to 2004, Wood served on the Idaho Fish and Game Commission. When long-time legislator and former Speaker of the Idaho House of Representatives Bruce Newcomb decided to not seek reelection in 2006, Wood entered a four-way race for the Republican nomination which he won. Idaho House Of Representatives
The Idaho House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the Idaho State Legislature. It consists of 70 representatives elected to two-year terms. The state is divided into 35 districts, each of which elects two representatives to separate seats. It meets at the Idaho State Capitol in Boise, Idaho, in the State Capitol Building. Composition of the House The Idaho House of Representatives has been continuously controlled by the Republican Party since the late 1950s, usually by a wide margin. Democrats picked up six seats in the 2006 elections. In the 2010 elections Republicans won back many of those seats, gaining five. Oneida County is a county located in the U.S. state of Idaho. As of the 2010 Census the county had a population of 4,286. The county seat and largest city is Malad City. Most of the county's population lives in Malad City and the surrounding Malad Valley. History The county is named for Oneida Lake, New York, the area from which most of the early settlers had emigrated. Oneida County was organized on January 22, 1864, with its county seat established at Soda Springs in present-day Caribou County. The county seat was moved to Malad City in 1866 because of its population growth and location on the freight road and stagecoach line between Corinne, Utah, and the mines in Butte, Montana. Minidoka County, Idaho
Minidoka County is a county located in the U.S. state of Idaho. As of the 2020 census, the population was 21,613. The county seat and largest city is Rupert. Minidoka County is part of the Burley, ID Micropolitan Statistical Area. The name Minidoka is of Dakota Sioux origin meaning "a fountain or spring of water." Minidoka was first used in 1883 as a name for the Union Pacific's Oregon Short Line, a railroad spur in the middle of the Snake River Plain. The spur later became the site of a watering station along the line. The village of Minidoka grew up next to the station. The Minidoka name was then given to a reclamation project under then President Theodore Roosevelt which included the construction of the Minidoka Dam, completed in 1904.
