Casper De Vries
Casper Johannes De Vries (; born 1 June 1964) is a South African actor, comedian, entertainer, painter, composer, director and producer. He has gained a significant following among South Africa's liberal Afrikaner and Afrikaans speaking population as well as Afrikaners living abroad. More recently due to his work on Comedy Central Africa he has also gained popularity among English speaking South Africans. Besides Afrikaans, he is fluent in Dutch and English. Early life He was born and raised in Pretoria where his father owned a toy shop. He attended Hoërskool Silverton where he was known as Cassie, and went on to study drama at the University of Stellenbosch. His shows were very popular amongst Afrikaans-speaking white South Africans and he even held shows in the London Palladium in London(2003 - 2006) where a lot of Afrikaners resided. SABC 2 is a South African family public television channel owned by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC). SABC 2 broadcasts programming in English, Sepedi, Afrikaans, Venda, and Tsonga. As of August 2018, the channel started broadcasting in high definition. Boeremag
The Boeremag (, "Boer Force") is the name by which a group of men convicted of treason in South Africa is commonly known. The South African government described them as a South African right-wing terrorist organization with white separatist aims. The Boeremag were accused of planning to overthrow the ruling African National Congress government and to reinstate a new Boer-administered republic reminiscent of the era when Boers administered independent republics during the 19th century following the Great Trek. South African law-enforcement officials charge the Boeremag for being responsible for the 2002 Soweto bombings and arrested twenty-six men, alleged to be members of the Boeremag, in November and December 2002, reportedly seizing over 1,000 kilograms of explosives in the process. Theuns Jordaan (10 January 1971 – 17 November 2021) was a South African singer-songwriter. Biography Jordaan was born on 10 January 1971 on a Karoo farm near Venterstad in the Eastern Cape. While studying industrial psychology at the University of Stellenbosch, he had his first performance on 21 October 1992 at a local bar called ''The Terrace''. He started composing his own lyrics, resulting in five songs of his debut album, ''Vreemde Stad''. Theuns attended Volkskool High School in Graaff-Reinet in the Eastern Cape. While at school, Std 9 and matric he played music and sang to local patrons at a pizza restaurant/ pub called Trail in. After he completed his studies, Jordaan spent a year as an entrepreneur. In October 1998, he moved from the Cape to Pretoria and, after gaining popularity in the city, recorded his debut album, ''Vreemde Stad'', in Stellenbosch. Shaleen Surtie-Richards
Shaleen Surtie-Richards (7 May 1955 – 7 June 2021) was a South African television, stage, and film actress, perhaps best known for her starring roles in the 1988 film '' Fiela se Kind'' and the long-running series '' Egoli: Place of Gold.'' She performed in both Afrikaans and English. Early life and career Surtie-Richards was born in Upington, Cape Province, Union of South Africa, on 7 May 1955 and attended school both there and in Cape Town. Her father was a school principal, and her mother was a teacher. Despite growing up during the Apartheid era, she has stated that her background was not a disadvantaged one. As a child, when a local music school would not admit her because of her colour, her father bought her a piano and hired a teacher. She also took ballet and tennis classes. Qualifying as a kindergarten teacher, Surtie-Richards taught in Upington and Cape Town between 1974 and 1984. Proesstraat
Proesstraat (Proes Street) is an Afrikaans Television-Show which airs on kykNet based on the German improvisational comedy show Schillerstrasse. It is recorded without a script, in front of a live audience and broadcast unedited to a large extent. Idea and show structure The setting of the show is the living room of the main actor Waldemar Schultz who lives on the real street "Proesstraat" in Pretoria, South Africa. The main character is regularly visited by friends and relatives. The participants only know the topic of the episode in advance. The whole plot has to be improvised comically. The cast receive directions from the ''Regisseur'' (Director/Presenter) on their ear-pieces, and have to follow the cues, e.g. "Eloise: Tell the others you're pregnant!".
