Cascajal (pisco)
Cascajal is a Cuban village and '' consejo popular'' (ward) of the municipality of Santo Domingo, in Villa Clara Province. With a 2012 population of 5,915, it is the most populated municipal settlement after Santo Domingo. History The village was founded in 1847, during the construction of the Central Railway (''Ferrocarril Central''), connecting Havana to Santiago de Cuba. Geography Cascajal lies west of its province, at the borders with the municipality of Los Arabos, in Matanzas Province, between Mayabón (7 km west) and Mordazo (9 km east). Nearest villages are Cayo Bejuco, 1 km southeast of it, and the little localities of Camilo Cienfuegos, Orbeta (both in Los Arabos) and Mi Cuba. The village is 21 km far from Los Arabos and Manacas, 32 from Santo Domingo, 40 from Colón, 71 from Santa Clara, 96 from Cárdenas and 126 from Matanzas. es, consejo popular, lit=Popular Council, People's Council (sometimes shorten to CP) commonly stated as a ward is an electoral ward or "political-administrative demarcations" of the National Assembly of People's Power of Cuba. They were created in 1988 and there are a total of 474 wards as of 2023. They also work as subdivisions, under municipalities. Most rural wards include 1 major town or village (usually with a population of 700-3000) with a few hamlets, while urban areas (usually municipal seat) are usually split into a few wards, named the city name with a I, II and sometimes III, and IV (an example is Camajuaní II). Camagüey
Camagüey () is a city and municipality in central Cuba and is the nation's third-largest city with more than 321,000 inhabitants. It is the capital of the Camagüey Province. It was founded as Santa María del Puerto del Príncipe in 1514, by Spanish colonists on the northern coast and moved inland in 1528, to the site of a Taino village named Camagüey. It was one of the seven original settlements (''villas'') founded in Cuba by the Spanish. After Henry Morgan burned the city in the 17th century, it was redesigned like a maze so attackers would find it hard to move around inside the city. The symbol of the city of Camagüey is the clayen pot or ''tinajón'', used to capture rain water and keep it fresh. The ''Carretera Central'' (CC), meaning "Central Road", is a west-east highway spanning the length of the island of Cuba. History Formal construction began in 1927 during the Gerardo Machado administration. It runs along the island of Cuba from west to east, between Pinar del Río and Oriente. Matanzas
Matanzas (Cuban ) is the capital of the Cuban province of Matanzas. Known for its poets, culture, and Afro-Cuban folklore, it is located on the northern shore of the island of Cuba, on the Bay of Matanzas (Spanish ''Bahia de Matanzas''), east of the capital Havana and west of the resort town of Varadero. San Juan de Dios de Cárdenas, or simply Cárdenas (), is a municipality and city in the Matanzas Province of Cuba, about by air by roadeast of Havana. Santa Clara is the capital city of the Cuban province of Villa Clara Province, Villa Clara. It is centrally located in the province and Cuba. Colón, Cuba
Colón is a municipality and city in the Matanzas Province of Cuba. The municipality has an area of and a population of about 71,000. The city proper, with a population of about 44,000, is the third-largest of its province. History The town was founded in 1836 under the name ''Nueva Bermeja''. The railroad, arrived nearby the town still in 1843, reached it in 1851. In 1852, Fernando Diago, the owner of the sugar mill Ponina, inaugurated the first public school in town. In 1859, it achieved the status of ('town') with the name Colón, after Christopher Columbus ( in Spanish).
