Norman Conquest
The Norman Conquest (or the Conquest) was the 11th-century invasion and occupation of England by an army made up of thousands of Norman, Breton, Flemish, and French troops, all led by the Duke of Normandy, later styled William the Conqueror. William's claim to the English throne derived from his familial relationship with the childless Anglo-Saxon king Edward the Confessor, who may have encouraged William's hopes for the throne. Edward died in January 1066 and was succeeded by his brother-in-law Harold Godwinson. The Norwegian king Harald Hardrada invaded northern England in September 1066 and was victorious at the Battle of Fulford on 20 September, but Godwinson's army defeated and killed Hardrada at the Battle of Stamford Bridge on 25 September. John Carver (footballer)
John William Carver (born 16 January 1965) is an English association football coach and former player. At Newcastle United, he held assistant coaching roles under Bobby Robson and Alan Pardew, and was the interim manager following Pardew's departure. Away from Newcastle, he was also assistant coach to Kevin Blackwell at Leeds United and Luton Town, as well as at Plymouth Argyle under Paul Mariner. As manager, he took charge of Toronto FC from 2008 to 2009 and Omonoia Nicosia from 2016 to 2017. Playing career Carver was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, and was raised in Cruddas Park. Robert Carver (painter)
Robert Carver (c. 1730 – 1791) was an Irish painter, who worked as a painter of theatre scenery as well as painting framed works. Carver was one of the leading landscape painters in the second half of eighteenth century Ireland. Life Robert Carver was born in Dublin circa 1730. His father was Richard Carver (died 1754), who was a landscape and history painter born in Waterford. Carver was initially trained by his father, and later studied under Robert West at West's school on George's Lane, Dublin. During his early career, Carver's address was at Lazar's Hill, Dublin. Carver was married to Anne Jolly. Their only known child was a son, John Carver, who died in 1766. Carver suffered from gout for a number of years. Carver died of pneumonia on 14 November 1791 at his home at 13 Bow Street, Covent Garden. He is buried at the churchyard of St Paul's, Covent Garden. Robert Carver (composer)
Robert Carver CRSA (also ''Carvor'', ''Arnot''; c. 1485 – c. 1570) was a Scottish Canon regular and composer of Christian sacred music during the Renaissance. Carver is regarded as Scotland's greatest composer of the 16th century. He is best known for his polyphonic choral music, of which there are five surviving masses and two surviving motets. The works that can definitely be attributed to him can be found in the ''Carver Choirbook'' held in the National Library of Scotland. Carver's work, noted for the gradual build-up of ideas towards a resolution in the final passages, is still performed and recorded today. Carver was influenced by composers in continental Europe, and his surviving music differs greatly from that produced by many of his contemporaries in Scotland or England at the time. Richard Carver (1792-1862) was a prolific architect of churches and secular buildings in Somerset, England, first based in his home town of Bridgwater and from 1828 in Taunton. Raymond Carver
Raymond Clevie Carver Jr. (May 25, 1938 – August 2, 1988) was an American short story writer and poet. He contributed to the revitalization of the American short story during the 1980s. Early life Carver was born in Clatskanie, Oregon, a mill town on the Columbia River, and grew up in Yakima, Washington, the son of Ella Beatrice Carter (née Casey) and Clevie Raymond Carver. Martin Oswald Hugh Carver, FSA, Hon FSA Scot, (born 8 July 1941) is Emeritus Professor of Archaeology at the University of York, England, director of the Sutton Hoo Research Project and a leading exponent of new methods in excavation and survey.
