Silvestro Carollo
Silvestro Carollo (, ; June 17, 1896 – June 26, 1970), nicknamed "Silver Dollar Sam", was an Italian-American mob boss, boss of the New Orleans crime family. He transformed the New Orleans's Black Hand gang into a Cosa Nostra crime family, and acted as street boss from 1922 to 1944. He was the boss from 1944 until his deportation in 1947. In 1970, he came back to the United States, and died on June 26, 1970. Early years Carollo was born on June 17, 1896 in Terrasini, Sicily, and immigrated to the United States in 1903 to join his parents in the French Quarter of New Orleans. William F. Carollo (born November 27, 1951) is a retired American football official who officiated National Football League (NFL) games from 1989 through 2008. He wore uniform number 63. Joe Carollo (born March 12, 1955) is a Cuban-American politician who served as mayor of Miami from 1996 to 1997 and again from 1998 to 2001. Following his loss in the 2001 mayoral election, he served as Doral, Florida city manager from January 2013 until his firing in April 2014; he was reinstated in June 2017, then immediately resigned. He successfully ran for election to the Miami city commission in 2017. Vincenzo Carollo (8 December 1920 – 7 February 2013) was an Italian politician from Palermo and member of the Christian Democratic Party (DC). Biography Carollo was born on 8 December 1920 in Castelbuono, Palermo. He would go on to get a degree in literature and later become a university assistant for University of Palermo's Ethnology department. He served as the President of Sicily, the head of the regional government, from 1967 to 1969. He would also serve as a member of the Sicilian Regional Assembly between 1958 and 1979. Joseph Paul Carollo (born March 25, 1940) is a former American football offensive tackle who play an eight-year career in the National Football League (NFL) for the Los Angeles Rams, Philadelphia Eagles, and the Cleveland Browns. He played college football at the University of Notre Dame and was drafted in the second round of the 1962 NFL Draft. Carollo was also selected in the eighteenth round of the 1962 AFL Draft by the Dallas Texans. Charles Vincent "Charlie the Wop" Carrollo (born Vincenzo Carrollo; August 25, 1902 – 1979) was an Italian-born Kansas City, Missouri crime boss during the 1930s. Carrollo was born in Santa Cristina Gela, an Arbëreshë town in the province of Palermo, Sicily, and immigrated with his family to the United States when he was three years old, initially settling in New York City before moving to Kansas City.
