Carmín Vega
Carmín Vega (born 6 September 1955) is a Puerto Rican singer and comedian. She has been called "the woman with a thousand voices and a thousand faces". Early years Carmín Vega (birth name: Carmen María Vega Correa) was born in Mercedita, Puerto Rico, on 6 September 1955. From a very young age, Vega showed her dexterity for signing when, in 1965, she was chosen from among 400 other contestants in a program for amateur singers. As the first winner in the competition her prize was the recording of her first 45 LP titled ''La Marca de Un Beso''. Entry into show business As a young girl, Vega was part of shows by Sophy, Danny Rivera and Lucecita Benítez. She was also in the 1960s '' La nueva ola'' show, produced by Tommy Muñiz, and in ''Luis Vigoreaux Presenta'', by the producer of the same name. Luis Antonio Rivera
Luis Antonio Rivera a.k.a. "Yoyo Boing" (born April 9, 1930) is a Puerto Rican actor, comedian and television show host, who was also one of the pioneers of Puerto Rico, Puerto Rican television. Early years Rivera was born in Humacao, Puerto Rico and his parents moved to San Juan, Puerto Rico, Santurce, a section of San Juan, from Humacao when he was only three years old. After receiving his primary education, Rivera attended the "Escuela Superior Central de Santurce" (Central High School (San Juan, Puerto Rico), Central High School of Santurce). Teatro Puerto Rico
The Teatro Puerto Rico was a music hall focused on the Latino community in the South Bronx section of New York City. During the 1940s to 1950s it presented ''la farándula,'' a vaudeville-style package of Spanish-language events, and attracted entertainers from all over Latin America. In the late 1960s, the neighborhood where the theater was located was in decline and the theater closed its doors until 1994. That year a real estate developer invested funds in renovations. After two years in operation, a political scandal involving misappropriated public funds forced the permanent closure of the theater. Luis Felipe Rodríguez, better known as Felipe "La Voz" Rodríguez, (May 8, 1926 – May 26, 1999) born in Caguas, Puerto Rico, was a singer of boleros. He is regarded as the most popular Puerto Rican male singer of the 1950s based on record sales and live audience records. Many of Rodríguez's recordings are often considered to be classics in Puerto Rico. Early years Rodríguez was born in the Savarona section of Caguas, the son of a sharecropper and a midwife. WBQN (680 AM) is a radio station licensed to San Juan, Puerto Rico, broadcasting a news-talk format. The station serves as the flagship station of the Borinquen Radio News Network and is owned by Wifredo G. Blanco-Pi (d/b/a Grupo AM Puerto Rico). It is an affiliate of CNN en Español radio news network. The station is rebroadcast by translator station W237FF 95.3 FM also located in San Juan. The station was relayed through an experimental synchronous station, WA2XPA Arecibo, which also broadcasts on 680 kHz. On April 19, 2017 the Federal Communications Commission ruled that WA2XPA's license will not be renewed. Olga Guillot (October 9, 1922 – July 12, 2010) was a Cuban singer who was known as the "Queen of Bolero". She was a native of Santiago de Cuba. Biography Daughter of Catalan-Jewish immigrants who moved to Cuba, her father was a tailor and her mother was a seamstress. Olga Guillot was born in Santiago de Cuba, and her family moved to Havana when she was five years old. As a teenager, she and her sister, Ana Luisa, performed as the "Duo Hermanitas Guillot." It wasn't until 1945 that her talent as a bolero singer was discovered, when Facundo Rivero, an influential man in the Cuban music scene of the era, heard her sing for the first time and helped her make her professional singing debut at a famous Havana night club.
