Carlos Prío Socarrás
Carlos Manuel Prío Socarrás (July 14, 1903 – April 5, 1977) was a Cuban politician. He served as the President of Cuba from 1948 until he was deposed by a military coup led by Fulgencio Batista on March 10, 1952, three months before new elections were to be held. He was the first president of Cuba to be born in an independent Cuba and the last to gain his post through universal, contested elections. He went into exile in the United States, where he lived for 25 years before dying by suicide at age 73. Governance In 1940, Prío was elected senator of Pinar del Río Province. Four years later, fellow Partido Auténtico member Ramón Grau became president, and during the Grau administration Prío served turns as Minister of Public Works, Minister of Labor and Prime Minister. 1952 Cuban Coup D'état
The 1952 Cuban coup d'état took place in Cuba on March 10, 1952, when the Cuban Constitutional Army, led by Fulgencio Batista, intervened in the election that was scheduled to be held on 1 June 1952, staging a coup d'état and establishing a ''de facto'' military dictatorship in the country. The coup has been referred to as the Batistazo in Cuban political jargon. Background In 1940 a new democratic constitution had been ratified in Cuba. In order to engage in the elections following the constitution's ratification, Fulgencio Batista resigned from the military to focus on a career in politics. Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North Park Cemetery And Mausoleum
Caballero Rivero Woodlawn North Park Cemetery and Mausoleum is one of the oldest cemeteries in Miami, Florida. Woodlawn Park Cemetery-North was established in 1913 by three pioneers in Miami’s early history – Thomas O. Wilson, William N. Urmey and Clifton D. Benson. The Woodlawn group of cemeteries grew throughout the years, and funeral homes were added as well. The founders imported rare tropical trees and shrubs to adorn the cemetery, including the first schefflera (umbrella trees) and mahogany trees brought to the United States. History Woodlawn Park in 1926 commissioned a noted mausoleum architect, McDonald Lovell, to design a mausoleum for the park. Alfredo Duran
Alfredo Joaquin González Durán (born 16 August 1936) is a Cuban-born lawyer and an advocate for dialogue as a way to bring regime change in Cuba. His views are considered controversial in some parts of the Cuban exile community in Miami. Early life Duran was born in Havana in 1939, the son of Ana Durán. In 1941, Duran's mother married Anselmo Alliegro y Milá, a Cuban senator and government minister. It was Alliegro, then president of the Senate, who accepted Fulgencio Batista's resignation on Dec. 31, 1958, and then took refuge, with his family, in the Chilean Embassy in Havana for three months. The Museum of the Revolution ( es, Museo de la Revolución) is located in the Old Havana section of Havana, Cuba, in what was the Presidential Palace of all Cuban presidents from Mario García Menocal to Fulgencio Batista. María Dolores "Mary" Tarrero-Serrano de Prio (5 October 1924 – 24 September 2010) was the First Lady of Cuba from 1948 to 1952. She was the second wife of Cuban President, Carlos Prio, who was overthrown by Fulgencio Batista in the 1952 Cuban coup d'état. Birth and early life Terrero was born on the sugarcane mill "Pina" in eastern Camaguey. Her father, Gerardo Terrero, was the mill's accountant and her mother was Elvira Serrano.
