Carlo Manché
Carlo Manché (1905–1950) was a Maltese Roman Catholic parish priest. He was born in Valletta, Malta, on 22 September 1905. He was one of seven children of surgeon Charles Manché, a lieutenant colonel in the British army, and his first wife Giuseppina Falzon. When Giuseppina died, Charles Manché married his second wife Lucrezia Vella, who bore him eight children. Carlo Manché was ordained as a Roman Catholic priest on 22 September 1928. The next day, he celebrated his first mass at the Gżira Parish Church. With a flair for languages, Carlo could speak English, Italian, French and German. He also had an academic knowledge of Latin, Hebrew and Biblical Greek. On 1 October 1928, Carlo Manché graduated in Theology and a Bachelor in Canon Law from the University of Malta. As Fr. Valletta (, mt, il-Belt Valletta, ) is an Local councils of Malta, administrative unit and capital city, capital of Malta. Gżira
Gżira ( mt, Il-Gżira) is a town in the Central Region of Malta. It is located between Msida and Sliema, also bordering on Ta' Xbiex. It has a population of 8,029 as of March 2014. The word ''Gżira'' means "island" in Maltese, and the town is named after Manoel Island which lies just adjacent to the town. The seafront of Gżira has views of the walled city of Valletta, which are illuminated at night, forming a backdrop to Manoel Island, the yacht marina and a seafront public garden. Kappara is located close to Gżira. The Orpheum Theatre is located in Gżira. Town history In the mid-19th century a villa was built in Gżira by Chevalier Jacob Tagliaferro. Henry Frendo
Henry Joseph Frendo (born 29 August 1948) is a professor of Modern History, teaching at the University of Malta since 1992. Frendo has previously worked with the UNHCR, and was stationed in Switzerland, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Egypt and Papua New Guinea. His main areas of research and interest are related to history since 1798; related to imperialism, nationalism, decolonization, postcolonialism, journalism, migration and ethnicity - in Central and Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean and MENA. Other areas of his interest are languages, culture and statehood.He is from Floriana and is brother of Michael Frendo.
