Carl Wilhelm Erich Zimmer
Carl Wilhelm Erich Zimmer (Sondershausen, 29 September 1873 – Hüll bei Wolnzach, 8 November 1950) was a German zoologist specialising in crustaceans, especially the order Cumacea. He studied zoology at the universities of Strasbourg, Munich and Breslau, receiving his doctorate in 1897. In 1912 he was appointed second director at the Zoological State Collection of Munich, where in 1917 he became director. From 1924 to 1937 he was a full professor and director of the zoological museum in Berlin. The crustacean genus ''Zimmeriana'' (Hale, 1946; family Gynodiastylidae) commemorates his name, as do species with the epithet of ''zimmeri'', including three species of frogs ('' Arthroleptis zimmeri'', '' Oreophryne zimmeri'', and '' Pseudophilautus zimmeri)'' and a species of lizard ('' Sphenomorphus zimmeri)''. Sondershausen
Sondershausen is a town in Thuringia, central Germany, capital of the Kyffhäuserkreis district, situated about 50 km north of Erfurt. On 1 December 2007, the former municipality Schernberg was incorporated by Sondershausen. Until 1918 it was part of the principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen. Geography Sondershausen is situated in North Thuringia and lies in low mountain range between Hainleite (in the north) and Windleite (in the south). The highest mountain is the Frauenberg to the west of the town. A little river called Wipper flows through Sondershausen. Around the town there are mixed forests (especially with beech trees). Peracarida
The superorder Peracarida is a large group of malacostracan crustaceans, having members in marine, freshwater, and terrestrial habitats. They are chiefly defined by the presence of a brood pouch, or ''marsupium'', formed from thin flattened plates (oostegites) borne on the basalmost segments of the legs. Peracarida is one of the largest crustacean taxa and includes about 12,000 species. Most members are less than in length, but the largest is probably the giant isopod (''Bathynomus giganteus'') which can reach . The earliest known perecaridian was '' Oxyuropoda ligioides'', a fossil of which has been found dating to the Late Devonian (more than 360 mya) of Ireland. Diastylidae
Diastylidae is one of the eight most commonly recognised families of crustaceans of the order Cumacea. They are marine creatures especially common around the 30th parallel north. Anatomy Diastylidae have a medium to large, free telson, that has not fused with the last pleon segment. The telson usually bears two terminal setae. Males have generally two pairs of pleopods, though in rare cases they may be rather small or even entirely absent. The flagellum of the second antenna reaches past the pereon. In females the second antenna is much smaller than the first antenna. In males the third maxilliped and the first four pereiopods almost always have exopods (outer branches). In females they may, in rare cases, be absent from all but the third maxillipeds, and the two first pereiopods.
