Carl Nielsen International Music Competition
Carl Nielsen International Competition (Danish: ''Carl Nielsen Konkurrencen'') is a competition for classical musicians (violin, clarinet, and flute) held in Odense, Denmark in memory of the composer Carl Nielsen. Overview The competition was established in 1980 under the patronage of Queen Margarethe of Denmark. It became a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions in 1981. Initially a violin competition, its first President was Henryk Szeryng. Later the competition added special editions for organists (since 1986), clarinetists (since 1997) and flutists (since 1998). At various times jury members included Max Rostal, Joseph Gingold, Norbert Brainin, Arve Tellefsen, Milan Vitek, Dorothy DeLay, Tibor Varga, Jean-Jacques Kantorow. Jaakko Kuusisto
Jaakko Ilkka Kuusisto (17 January 1974 – 23 February 2022) was a Finnish violinist, composer, and conductor. Education After initial studies under Géza Szilvay and , Kuusisto went on to win the 1989 , place 4th in the International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition the following year, and share the 2nd prize in the 1996 Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition, among others. Kuusisto studied at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, majoring in violin, as well as at Indiana University under Miriam Fried. Career As a violinist, Kuusisto has appeared in 30 recordings, of which at least 17 credited as a primary artist, performing works from composers such as Sibelius, Prokofiev, Kalevi Aho and Armas Järnefelt; as a conductor, he has recorded a dozen times. Nikolaj Znaider
Nikolaj Szeps-Znaider (born 5 July 1975 in Copenhagen, Denmark) is a Danish violinist and conductor. Biography Szeps-Znaider was born in Copenhagen to Polish-Jewish parents. His father had originally emigrated from Poland to Israel, and his mother's family had settled in Denmark before World War II. His teachers have included Milan Vitek and Boris Kuschnir. In June 1992, Szeps-Znaider won the first prize of the 4th International Carl Nielsen International Music Competition. In 1995 he was awarded 3rd prize at International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition. In 1997 he became a 1st prize winner of the Queen Elisabeth Music Competition in Brussels. Daniel Ottensamer
Daniel Ottensamer is an Austrian clarinetist and the principal clarinet of the Vienna Philharmonic. Life and career Ottensamer first began learning the piano in 1992, and switched to cello after two years. He then took up the clarinet, studying with Anton Hafenscher at the Music School in Perchtoldsdorf. In 2004, he began studying under Johann Hindler at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. In September 2009, he was appointed first clarinetist of the Vienna State Opera Orchestra. Ottensamer has won several prizes at various international clarinet competitions. Sébastian Jacot is a Swiss classical flutist. He is one of the principal flutists of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra. Early life Jacot began playing flute at age 8. He studied under Isabelle Giraud and Jacques Zoon, graduating from the Conservatoire de musique de Genève in 2010. Career At age 18, Jacot was appointed assistant principal flute of the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra under Edo de Waart. He held this position for two years, subsequently playing with the Mozart Orchestra under Claudio Abbado, the Mahler Chamber Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, and the Saito Kinen Orchestra. Henrik Wiese
Henrik Wiese (born 22 July 1971) is a German flutist. Life and career Born in Vienna, Wiese studied in his hometown of Hamburg with Ingrid Koch-Dörnbrak and in Munich with Paul Meisen. In 1995, he was engaged as principal flutist at the Bavarian State Opera Munich. In 2006, he moved to the same position in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra. Wiese received calls to the Hochschule für Künste Bremen in 2018 and to the Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg in 2020. Karl-Heinz Schütz is an Austrian classical flutist. He is the principal flutist of the Vienna Philharmonic. Career Schütz was born in Innsbruck and grew up in Landeck, Tyrol. He studied under Eva Amsler, Aurèle Nicolet, and Philippe Bernold. He graduated from the Lyon Conservatory in 2000. He joined the Vienna State Opera Orchestra in 2011 and moved on to the Vienna Philharmonic in 2015, which he joined as a principal flutist. Mariusz Patyra (born 21 November 1977 in Orzysz, Poland) is a Polish violinist. He won First Prize in the International Violin Competition "Premio Paganini" (Genoa 2001). Career In 2001, Mariusz Patyra’s artistic career took off when he won the Niccolo Paganini International Violin Competition. Vladislav Adelkhanov (born 7 March 1970) is a Georgian violinist, teacher and writer. Biography Born and raised in Tbilisi, Vladislav Adelkhanov started to play violin at the age of seven. He first studied with David Reizner at a regular neighborhood music school, and as a school pupil performed with the Georgian National Symphony Orchestra concertos by Bruch, Mozart, Vivaldi and Wieniawski as well as ''Symphonie espagnole'' by Lalo.
