Carl Hanniwell
Carl David Hanniwell (May 28, 1903 – April 22, 1969) was a Canadian politician who served as a Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario member of the Ontario legislature and as a municipal politician. He served as an alderman and later as mayor of the city of Niagara Falls, Ontario. He was mayor from 1938 until 1939. Niagara Falls is a city in Ontario, Canada. It is on the western bank of the Niagara River in the Golden Horseshoe region of Southern Ontario, with a population of 88,071 at the 2016 census. It is part of the St. Catharines - Niagara Census Metropolitan Area (CMA). Incorporated on 12 June 1903, the city is across the river from Niagara Falls, New York. The Niagara River flows over Niagara Falls at this location, creating a natural spectacle which attracts millions of tourists each year. William Limburg Houck (May 10, 1893 – May 5, 1960) was a Canadian politician. Born in Buffalo, New York, Houck was a coal dealer, fuel dealer, and merchant before being elected as the Liberal Party of Ontario candidate to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario in 1934, 1937, 1948, and 1951. Ontario Hydro
Ontario Hydro, established in 1906 as the Hydro-Electric Power Commission of Ontario, was a publicly owned electricity utility in the Province of Ontario. It was formed to build transmission lines to supply municipal utilities with electricity generated by private companies already operating at Niagara Falls, and soon developed its own generation resources by buying private generation stations and becoming a major designer and builder of new stations. As most of the readily developed hydroelectric sites became exploited, the corporation expanded into building coal-fired generation and then nuclear-powered facilities. Renamed as "Ontario Hydro" in 1974, by the 1990s it had become one of the largest, fully integrated electricity corporations in North America.
