Carl Fredrik Diriks
Carl Frederik Diriks (26 March 1814 – 3 March 1895) was a Norwegian maritime officer, lighthouse director and illustrator. He was born in Larvik to government minister Christian Adolph Diriks and Maren Cathrine Tax. He was uncle of Edvard Diriks, and father-in-law of county manager and government minister Nikolai Prebensen. Diriks was appointed director of the Norwegian Lighthouse administration from 1855 to 1881. He is also known for his illustrations. Among his publications are the children's book ''Lille Anna'' from 1868 and the illustration series ''Allehaande'' (eight volumes, 1869–1882). Larvik
Larvik () is a List of cities in Norway, town and Municipalities of Norway, municipality in Vestfold in Vestfold og Telemark Counties of Norway, county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Larvik. The municipality of Larvik has about 46,364 inhabitants. The municipality has a 110 km coastline, only shorter than that of neighbouring Sandefjord. The city achieved market town status in 1671. Larvik was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). Christian Adolph Diriks
Christian Adolph Diriks (1 November 1775 – 16 December 1837) was a Norwegian lawyer and statesman. He served as a representative at the Norwegian Constitutional Assembly in 1814. Biography Christian Adolph Diriks was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. He was the son of maritime captain Boye Boyesen Dyriks (1744–80) and Marie Elisabeth Stoppel (d. 1797). After studying law at the University of Copenhagen, he earned his cand. jur. in 1795. He worked for some years in the city court of Copenhagen. In 1806, Diriks was appointed Assessor in Kristiansand. In 1812, he was made Director of the Justice Court ( ''Justisråd'') for Laurvig (now Larvik). Diriks was Magistrate in Laurvig and Judge from 1812 to 1815. Edvard Diriks
Karl Edvard Diriks (9 January 1855 – 17 March 1930) was a Norwegian painter. Biography He was born in Christiania (now Oslo, Norway) to Christian Ludvig Diriks and Benedicte Henriette Munch. He was a grandson of government minister Christian Adolph Diriks (1775–1837) and a nephew of maritime officer and lighthouse director Carl Frederik Diriks (1814–1895). He began to study in Germany where he became acquainted with Norwegian and German painters Christian Krohg, Hans Gude, Frits Thaulow and Max Klinger. He first studied to become an architect at Karlsruhe from 1874 to 1875. He accompanied Krohg and Klinger to Berlin in the autumn of 1875 as a student at the Bauakademie. Nikolai Prebensen
Nikolai Christian Grove Prebensen (13 April 1850 – 24 May 1938) was a Norwegian politician for the Conservative Party. He was born in the town of Risør as a son of Jacob Wetlesen Prebensen (1808–1892) and Wencke Kristiane Grove. He finished his secondary education in 1868 and took the cand.jur. degree in 1873. He was hired as a clerk in the Ministry of Church Affairs in 1876, and from 1878 to 1881 he was a deputy judge in Romsdal District Court. He was also acting district stipendiary magistrate for some time in the absence of district stipendiary magistrate Roll. Knut Helle
Knut Helle (19 December 1930 – 27 June 2015) was a Norwegian historian. A professor at the University of Bergen from 1973 to 2000, he specialized in the late medieval history of Norway. He has contributed to several large works.
