Carl Ernst Forberg
Carl (Karl) Ernst Forberg (20 October 1844 – 9 April 1915) was a German engraver, etching, etcher and painter of the Düsseldorf school of painting. Life Born in Düsseldorf, Forberg was born the son of the Leipzig-born musician Fritz Forberg, who as a pupil of Julius Rietz was a sought-after cello, violin, piano and organ player in Düsseldorf's musical life. He was solo cellist for Robert Schumann and organist at the Garnisonskirche Düsseldorf, Garrison Church in Düsseldorf. His son Carl Ernst attended the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 1858. There his teachers were Joseph Wintergerst, Andreas Müller (painter), Andreas and Karl Müller (painter), Karl Müller, Heinrich Mücke and Rudolf Wiegmann. From 1860, he was trained in the techniques of copperplate engraving by Joseph von Keller, the founder of a school of copperplate engraving at the Kunstakademie. Johann August Wilhelm Sohn (29 August 1829, in Berlin – 16 March 1899, in Pützchen, near Bonn) was a German genre painter and art professor. Life Johann August Wilhelm Sohn was born 29 August 1829, in Berlin, Germany. In 1847, he went to Düsseldorf, where he studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf (Düsseldorf Art Academy) with Rudolf Wiegmann, Theodor Hildebrandt, Wilhelm von Schadow and his uncle, Karl Ferdinand Sohn. After that, he supplemented his studies by traveling extensively. In 1861, he married his cousin, Sophie Emilie (Emmy) Sohn, making Karl Ferdinand his uncle and father-in-law. Heinrich Von Angeli
Heinrich Anton von Angeli (July 8, 1840, – October 21, 1925) was an Austrian historian and portrait painter. Life The Angeli family was originally from Venice and was ennobled by the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian II, Holy Roman Emperor, Maximilian II in 1565.Braun-Ronsdorf (1953), p. 288 Angeli was born in 1840 in Ödenburg, then part of the Austrian empire, now known as Sopron in Hungary. Eduard Julius Friedrich Bendemann (3 December 1811, Berlin – 27 December 1889, Düsseldorf) was a German-Jewish painter. Biography Bendemann was born in Berlin. His father, Anton Heinrich Bendemann, was a Jewish banker. His mother, Fanny Eleonore Bendemann ''née'' von Halle, was a daughter of the Jewish banker Joel Samuel von Halle. His father monitored his education closely and it would have naturally led him to some sort of technical occupation, but his talent and propensity towards art resulted in his being allowed to pursue other interests. Julius Geertz
Julius Geertz (21 April 1837–21 October 1902) was a German artist of the Düsseldorf school of painting. Biography Geertz was born in Hamburg where he began his artistic studies under the brothers Günther Gensler and , then worked for some time as a private student of the former, after which he became a pupil of Adolf des Coudres in Karlsruhe. He moved to Düsseldorf in 1860 and entered the studio of Rudolf Jordan. In 1864 he travelled to Paris, where he studied the work of the old masters, and afterwards to Brittany and the Netherlands. Eduard Kurzbauer (2 March 1840, Vienna - 13 January 1879, Munich) was an Austrian painter. Some sources give Lemberg as his place of birth. Life His father was a teacher at the Vienna Polytechnic Institute. In 1856, he began to study lithography, but wasn't satisfied and switched to the Academy of Fine Arts where he remained until 1861, when his father was unable to continue paying his tuition and still support a large family. Friends came to his assistance, but it wasn't until 1867 that he achieved some success with his painting "The Storyteller". Benjamin Vautier (Swiss Artist)
Marc Louis Benjamin Vautier (27 April 1829 – 25 April 1898) was a Swiss genre painter and illustrator. Life and work He was born in Morges. He was the son of a teacher and began his art studies in Geneva, then worked for two years as a jewelry enamel painter. In 1849, he obtained a position in the studios of history painter Jean-Léonard Lugardon. While there, he also took courses in anatomical drawing at a nearby art school. The following year, he began attending the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and became a member of "Malkasten" (Paintbox), a local artists' association. He left the Academy for one year to work with Rudolf Jordan as a private student.
