Carl Civella
Carl "Cork" Civella (January 28, 1910 – October 2, 1994) was the leader of the Kansas City crime family following the death of his brother, long-time crime boss Nicholas Civella, after heading day-to-day operations during the mid-1970s. Carl's reign as Kansas city boss was brief. In 1984, he and his son, Anthony Civella, were convicted of skimming operations in Las Vegas, Nevada, Las Vegas casinos throughout the 1970s. Carl was sentenced to 10-to-20 years in prison, with another 10 years added on an unrelated Criminal charge, charge. On October 2, 1994, Carl Civella died in prison of pneumonia. Nicholas Civella
Nicholas Civella (born Giuseppe Nicoli Civella; March 19, 1912 – March 12, 1983) was an American mobster who became a prominent leader of the Kansas City crime family. Early life Civella was born to Italian immigrants in Kansas City. He was the younger brother of mobster Carl "Cork" Civella and the uncle of mobster Anthony Civella. Nicholas Civella began his criminal career as a teenager in the Italian "Northeast" neighborhood of Kansas City. Civella's first arrest was at age 10, after which he dropped out of school. Before he reached age 20, Civella had been arrested for auto theft, illegal gambling, robbery, and vagrancy. In 1932, Civella spent two months in prison for bootlegging. In 1934 Civella married Katherine, his wife for almost fifty years. He had no children of his own. Anthony Civella
Anthony Thomas "Tony Ripe" Civella (February 17, 1930 – February 16, 2006) was an American mobster who was head of the Kansas City crime family. Anthony was born in Kansas City, Missouri. His criminal record started in 1952. As a young man, he started working in the Kansas City criminal organization, which was run by his uncle, Nicholas Civella. In 1983, Nicolas Civella died and leadership of the organization passed to Carl "Cork" Civella, Anthony's father. Carl put Anthony in charge of running the organization's gambling interests, which included the Tropicana, Fremont, and Stardust casinos in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 1984, Anthony and Carl Civella were convicted of skimming casino profits from their Las Vegas casinos and Anthony received five years in prison.
