Caribes De Anzoátegui
The Caribes de Anzoátegui ( en, Anzoátegui Caribs) is a baseball team in the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League based in Puerto la Cruz, Anzoátegui. Franchise history In January 1987, a local businessmen group based in Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela stated their intention to Venezuelan Professional Baseball League to pursue an expansion franchise. Finally on July 15, 1987, the franchise was founded with 21 stockholders and begun a struggle for finding a second expansion team for it was a league requirement. It was not until 1990 that the Venezuelan league awarded the Puerto la Cruz-based franchise, and the Caribes de Oriente debuted in the 1991–92 season. The team's name remained until 2005, when it changed to Caribes de Anzoátegui up to the present. Estadio Alfonso Chico Carrasquel
Estadio Alfonso Chico Carrasquel is a baseball stadium based in Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela, which serves as home for the Caribes de Anzoátegui of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League. At , the plot is only just big enough to house the stadium, with room for expansion to the north and north west, and only sufficient room on the other sides to allow movement of spectators and access to the stands. The stadium can seat 18,000 people and was originally built in 1959 under the name of Estadio Municipal de Puerto La Cruz. From 1956 through 1964, the facility served as the home for the Indios de Oriente and Estrellas Orientales clubs. Later it was rebuilt and opened in 1991, being created exclusively for professional baseball, and was renamed after former major league baseball player, Alfonso ′′Chico′′ Carrasquel. Considered a top prospect, Melián received a record signing bonus for a Latin American player from the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB) when he was 16 years old.
