Carefully Selected Moments
''Carefully Selected Moments'' is a compilation album by Austrian art and theory group monochrom that was released on 10 June 2008 in Austria. The album was intended to be a best-of collection of the group's musical output. The album is being distributed by Trost Records. Background To celebrate monochrom's 15th anniversary, the members decided to release a CD containing a variety of songs the group had previously created for their art projects, live shows and theater performances. Part of the concept was to invite musicians and music formations to re-record or re-mix some of monochrom's tracks. Most of the vocal performances are by members of monochrom, e.g. Johannes Grenzfurthner and Evelyn Fürlinger. The songs range from genres like country and pop to club music and experimental music. The lyrics, partially in German and English, are political and deal with various controversial issues, like mass surveillance, migration, critique of capitalism and heteronormativity. T ... Monochrom
Monochrom (stylised as monochrom) is an international art-technology-philosophy group, publishing house and film production company. It was founded in 1993, and defines itself as "an unpeculiar mixture of proto-aesthetic fringe work, pop attitude, subcultural science and political activism". Its main office is located at Museumsquartier/Vienna (at 'Q21'). The group's members are: Johannes Grenzfurthner, Evelyn Fürlinger, Harald Homolka-List, Anika Kronberger, Franz Ablinger, Frank Apunkt Schneider, Daniel Fabry, Günther Friesinger and Roland Gratzer. The group is known for working with different media and entertainment formats, although many projects are performative and have a strong focus on a critical and educational narrative. Jonathan Mann (musician)
Jonathan Mann (born April 9, 1982) is an American singer-songwriter, best known for creating a song and video every day since January 2009. His songs often allude to news and popular trends of the very day he uploads them to his YouTube channel. In November 2014, Mann set a world record for the most consecutive days writing a song. Career Mann started composing at the age of 12, before enrolling at Bennington College. While pursuing his graduate studies at CalArts, he co-wrote and starred in a rock opera called "The Last Nympho Leprechaun" with colleague Thomas Hughes. In grad school, he wrote and starred in a rock opera based on the Super Mario Brothers. Since then, he has recorded music and self-released albums under the names Forty (or 40) Second Songs, The Nympho Leprechauns, Novox the Robot, GameJew, The Mario Opera, as well as simply Jonathan Mann. Raymond Lefèvre (20 November 1929 – 27 June 2008) was a French easy listening orchestra leader, arranger and composer. Biography and career Born on 20 November 1929 in Calais, France, Raymond Lefèvre is best known for his interpretation of the 1968 theme "Soul Coaxing (Ame Caline)" (composed by Michel Polnareff), which became an international hit. Georg Paul Thomann (March 13, 1945 – July 21, 2005) was purported to be a renowned Austrian conceptual artist of the late 20th century. In reality, he was the fictitious creation of the Austrian art group monochrom who started working on his biography in the summer of 2000. São Paulo Art Biennial The art group monochrom was chosen to represent the Republic of Austria at the São Paulo Art Biennial, São Paulo (Brazil) in 2002. However, the political climate in Austria, where-in the center-right People's Party had recently formed a coalition with Jörg Haider's radical-right Austrian Freedom Party, gave the left-wing art group concerns about acting as representatives of their nation. Heteronormativity
Heteronormativity is the concept that heterosexuality is the preferred or normal mode of sexual orientation. It assumes the gender binary (i.e., that there are only two distinct, opposite genders) and that sexual and marital relations are most fitting between people of opposite sex. A heteronormative view therefore involves alignment of biological sex, sexuality, gender identity and gender roles. Heteronormativity is often linked to heterosexism and homophobia. Johannes Grenzfurthner (; born 1975 in Vienna) is an Austrian artist, filmmaker, writer, actor, curator, theatre director, performer and lecturer. Grenzfurthner is the founder, conceiver and artistic director of ''monochrom'', an international art and theory group and film production company. Most of his artworks are labeled ''monochrom''. Trost Records
Trost Records is a record label located in Vienna. History In the early 1990s, Trost was founded as a tape label, releasing records of Austrian alternative and underground bands, such as Valina, , and Holly May. In 2011, the sublabel Cien Fuegos was established which primarily releases free jazz re-issues. Moreover, Trost started to closely cooperate with artists like Peter Brötzmann, , Mats Gustafsson, Alexander von Schlippenbach. In 2013, Trost released the five-CD set ''Long Story Short'', featuring recordings from the ''Wels Unlimited'' festival held in Austria in November 2011, to celebrate the birthday of Peter Brötzmann.
